Is Facebook a Useful tool 20th February 2012 2:20 PM
Facebook doesn't really do much for us but this could also to do with not spending enough time and effort to find a particular use for it.

We mainly have it as another platform for people to find us. LinkedIn is most probably a more useful social networking platform for many (not all) businesses.
Twitter makeover, what do you think? 17th February 2012 5:17 PM
Like the new changes too. Nice and clean. Make's navigation and getting things done quite simple. Like you Steve we usually use a application to post our tweets but signed in a few days ago to notice the changes.

Also heard that MailChimp is pretty good. We haven't used it ourselves.
Barclay's bank profit falls by 3% to 16th February 2012 10:11 AM
Ahh ok, that kind of makes sense in my non numerical brain.

Was at home last Wed afternoon with the telly on in the background, and there was advert after advert for payday loans, various finance, and "where there's blame, there's a claim" type adverts.

So their target audience are daytime TV people sat glued to the telly, which if not people looking after kids, is going to be a high percentage of non working people.

Just gave me the impression of sharks circling the gullible and vulnerable.

There definitely is a market out there for these companies. Some of the people who take out these payday loans don't have access to other cheaper credit facilities due to bad credit history/scores so they result to taking out these pay day loans.

Think they should be some more education given to people about money management but its also up to individuals to make their own decisions.

Btw thought the government wants to step in on no win, no fee:

Barclay's bank profit falls by 3% to 15th February 2012 4:53 PM
Yeah it sucks, parasites feeding off the vulnerable. I saw one the other day that said 7000% in the small print. How can that be legal?

I'm all for business and a free market, but there needs to be some ethics and compassion in there somewhere...

Think that they would say the figures are based on compound interest and that if you pay back the loan in time that it would be significantly less.
I tend to find the best fix for annoying computer issues like this is red wine

Ok, it's a short term fix

Great idea Steve. Nice cold beer might be a another good suggestion too. Sadly we don't have a cool emoticion for this
Groupon - do you use it? 10th February 2012 10:03 AM
The restaurant that puts up the voucher receives nothing, but then tries to recoup by either upselling the customer while they are there, or in the hope that they enjoy themselves and return as paying guests.

Seems a dangerous and alien strategy to me, but there seem to be plenty of restaurants that see this an acceptable form of marketing.

Yep the upsale. With the face that Groupon and other similar companies are daily deal services there isn't really any incentive for consumers to return to the same restaurant (or spa or whatever) when there are not doing a deal cause they can wait for another Groupon deal.

Like MRB said the model is easily copied but don't think that's the only problem. Another problem is that their model doesn't seem to encourage customer retension. If Groupon takes quite a big slice of the pie and clients don't really see much in the way of return or repeat business from some of these new customers then there not likely to run another Groupon deal.
Anyone using Klout? 8th February 2012 5:03 PM
Was put off by Klout home screen for some reason, seemed to hurt the eye. Might just be from sitting in front a computer screen all day.

Looks like a fun piece of software but not sure if we can be asked to use it. Does anyone know how it even measures your Klout? Guessing its on how many likes, mentions and other things like that.
RBS boss gets 8th February 2012 4:55 PM
Reminds me of when Meryl Streep was in charge.

LOL. Stephen Hester should be left to get on with his job now. Seems like some of the recent events have been having a affect on his outlike as he said that he briefly consider quiting:

BBC News - RBS boss Stephen Hester 'considered resigning'

Also read in City A.M. that he sent a email to ever member of staff to rally the troops in light of the recent media coverage surrounding RBS.

I feel that that is the main use of FB, merely being a platform to used as just another place t be found, yet having all these facebook pages doesnt really help with getting traffic to your site. 99% of people are only going to know of your FB page because they already know of your website. As good as my companies website looks, its still the age old problem of getting people to visit the site, without plunging
