Syria - sweepstake? 7th August 2012 12:00 AM
I think it would be better if everyone took a leaf out of David Starkeys book and just let the Syrians decide their own fate. Everytime a third party gets involved with an uprising or civil war the problem seems to escalate. Fortunately our boys are just to busy watching the Olympics to participate in yet another conflict that has nowt to do with Brittain. We can send humanitarian aid once they sorted themselves out.

I have a gut feeling that if Uzbekistan or other similar country had been in the running and had won the right to host the games they too would be in the top 5 list of medal winners currently they only have one bronze medal. It will be intresting to see how the host country for the 2022 FIFA world cup does, their probably get into the quarter or maybe the semi finals, but ordinarily they wouldn't have a flying figs chance of being in such a position. I'll give this thread a bump up in 2022 just to prove my point

Really? So much so that your now jogging everywhere in lycra with a sweat band around your head!

Ok to be honest with you travelling around London has been great a few inconveniences such as no right turns but by and large most people have stayed away so traveling has been good. I do and always will though object to a minority of people having special priveleges over the majority of people. But thats just me though. As for all those who have won gold yep good luck to them although I cant understand why you can win a medal at the Olympics but can't win Wimbledon? As for the others who are now on their way to millions I do wonder as to whether they will be contributing some of their new found wealth back to the organisations like sports aid who have funded them over the years... somehow I think not...

I think if everyone were honest, then it would be accepted that most olympians are cheats or at least trying to cheat the system. When I was a kid at school I never had to take protein powders or pills or snort ammonia before paticipating in the egg and spoon race. So called professional sportsmen know how long before a competition they need to take a drug which will leave no trace should there be a drugs test on competition day. As a kid I used to cycle everywhere and sometimes even doing 200 miles over a weekend and thankfully I never ended up with legs like this Just like cars humans have a maximum power output no matter who they are, but once you start adding fuel additives you end up with something completly different and to be honest quite freakish, I think I'd rather have my natural body shape which is probably classed as obese than the legs of this particular cyclist who is classed as fit
Fuel crisis 31st July 2012 11:57 PM
I don't think the Government are too worried about any possible fuel crisis. Currently we have 100s of buses both double and single swanning up and down the dedicated Olympic lanes with around on average 4 people on board including the driver. Then we have 100s of the BMW's with the so called VIP's onboard, not the best of motors to choose for either fuel consumption or fuel emmisions, then we have the heads of state in Daimlers in packs of two with three motorbike outriders at the front and another three at the back. Finally there is a bunsen burner in Stratford thats burning gas at an incredible rate and will remain lit for the forseeable future. No doubt all these carbon emmisions will be offset against something else to fiddle the UK's carbon quota. So as to the fuel crisis, I don't believe there is one, that is until in two months time when 86 year old Doris who lives up the road has to decide whether to have a bowl of soup or to turn the heating on. Now that bunsen burner in Stratford thats burning merrily away could probably provide enough heating and hot water for a 1000 plus homes. Sometimes we just never get our priorities right...
Just tried to use it on my iphone, trouble is my my fingers are just to fat to write anything that makes sense
Main problem with electric cars, is you can't hear them coming. Which kind of knocks the green cross code message of stop, look and listen on it's head. They should all be made to drag a metal mop bucket...

Olympic Seats 30th July 2012 5:15 PM
Well they are even using the army now, but as they are already over stretched, either at war, carrying out security at the Olympics or having already been laid off, they still can't fill them. I'd be quite happy if they gave all these empty seats to London's council tax payers who had to pay an extra levy towards this, thereby freeing up the congested roads to allow the majority of people who work in Central London to earn a living.
