At last the Olympics officially start tonight, have to be honest though im all Olympiced out.
Seems like some of the athletes are too - out of 500 odd GB participants they reckon only around 200 will make it to tonights opening ceremony due to early starts tomorrow.
Would have thought the organisers would have thought about that and either closed the ceremony earlier or rescheduled tomorrows games.
Anyone else Olympiced out?
“Would have thought the organisers would have thought about that and either closed the ceremony earlier or rescheduled tomorrows games. Anyone else Olympiced out?” Can see why they wanted to do it, starting at 20:12 but it does seem a bit late ![]()
Yep all Olympiced out over here too. Had a opportunity to attend the opening ceremony but thought it would be a little bit too long of an affair. It should be a interesting spectical. Get the Games Begin ![]() Accounting Help
Yes is the answer... driving has been awful, road markings are awful one minute you'll be driving in the correct lane which will eventually guide you into an Olympic lane. Then you have fixed road signs saying the Olympic lanes are in use between the hours of 6am -12pm with a mobile matrix sign 100yds further saying you can use the Olympic lane. Went into Knightsbridge today took over 2hrs to travel 17miles only for the area to become gridlocked within 15 minutes. Obviously beach volley ball and the like is so much important than the UK economythumbsdown Thanks, Barney
We're sure that the beach volleyball is keeping many people sane in these tough times ![]() Accounting Help
Thought I'd highjack this thread rather than start a new one. I just wanted to know peoples thoughts on the ladies badminton games where it appears that some teams where deliberately trying to throw games BBC News - Olympic female badminton players charged Accounting Help
I think if everyone were honest, then it would be accepted that most olympians are cheats or at least trying to cheat the system. When I was a kid at school I never had to take protein powders or pills or snort ammonia before paticipating in the egg and spoon race. So called professional sportsmen know how long before a competition they need to take a drug which will leave no trace should there be a drugs test on competition day. As a kid I used to cycle everywhere and sometimes even doing 200 miles over a weekend and thankfully I never ended up with legs like this Just like cars humans have a maximum power output no matter who they are, but once you start adding fuel additives you end up with something completly different and to be honest quite freakish, I think I'd rather have my natural body shape which is probably classed as obese than the legs of this particular cyclist who is classed as fit ![]() Thanks, Barney

Interesting - it seems they were trying to fix it so that they didnt face their compatriots until the finals - looks like its backfired now & they have all been thrown out, subject to the usual appeal. To me its unsportsmanlike, said it many times with footballers diving to get penalties - seems to be no pride any more when playing sports, due to heavy sponsorship its all about the winning and not the taking part- damn im sounding old lol Clive
Well I've got to be honest, Olympic fever has definitely got the Richardson household.. After genuinely feeling nervous at the prospect of a world wide humiliation during the opening ceremony, I was blown away with it ![]() Then after a slow start, what a difference a few days makes! I can't believe how well Team GB is doing. The Olympic park looks fantastic on the telly, and I look at it and forget it's actually being hosted in the UK ![]() After years of ongoing financial doom, and a record wash out summer, it's nice to see most people buoyant and optimistic about their country for a change ![]() I've no doubt most of the londoners who are directly impacted will disagree, but even Barney must be smiling at the medals table? Be interesting to know though from any of our London bods, is travel around the city as bad as expected, or is it being managed ok? Are you guys still dong business or are you all in lock down mode?
“Olympic fever has definitely got the Richardson household.. Read more: http://www.mylocalforums.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&noquote=1&p=32312#ixzz22lto6jUo” Really? So much so that your now jogging everywhere in lycra with a sweat band around your head! ![]() Ok to be honest with you travelling around London has been great a few inconveniences such as no right turns but by and large most people have stayed away so traveling has been good. I do and always will though object to a minority of people having special priveleges over the majority of people. But thats just me though. As for all those who have won gold yep good luck to them although I cant understand why you can win a medal at the Olympics but can't win Wimbledon? As for the others who are now on their way to millions I do wonder as to whether they will be contributing some of their new found wealth back to the organisations like sports aid who have funded them over the years... somehow I think not...
