Ok to be honest with you travelling around London has been great a few inconveniences such as no right turns but by and large most people have stayed away so traveling has been good. I do and always will though object to a minority of people having special priveleges over the majority of people. But thats just me though. As for all those who have won gold yep good luck to them although I cant understand why you can win a medal at the Olympics but can't win Wimbledon? As for the others who are now on their way to millions I do wonder as to whether they will be contributing some of their new found wealth back to the organisations like sports aid who have funded them over the years... somehow I think not...

Barney I do also wonder how some British athletes can win medals at tennis at Olympics but can win Wimbledon. Think its partly to do with it being a bit shorter then the Wimbledon and a slightly different format but still doesn't explain how a certain British player can beat the world no 1 in straight sets in a best of 5 but good news anyway. Travelling has been nice and easy with some places looking like a ghost town at the start of the Olympics. Not sure if I agree that most olympians are cheats. Yes there have been a some examples of athletes trying to cheat the system such as the rider in the team pursuit admitting to crashing on purpose in order to get the race restarted so that the team could go for a quick time.

So proud of team GB right now - its so addictive even the most obscure sports!!

I have a gut feeling that if Uzbekistan or other similar country had been in the running and had won the right to host the games they too would be in the top 5 list of medal winners currently they only have one bronze medal. It will be intresting to see how the host country for the 2022 FIFA world cup does, their probably get into the quarter or maybe the semi finals, but ordinarily they wouldn't have a flying figs chance of being in such a position. I'll give this thread a bump up in 2022 just to prove my point

Thanks,
Barney

Who knows. Team GB did finish 4th in the medal table at the Beijing Olympics so not really too much of a surprise here. Most of the medals won have been in the sports that you would expect GB to win medals in and a lot of them have been sitting down competitions. It is still a great effort though.

Go #TeamGB - We need more positivity than in the Olympic threads I've just been reading... ....sorry been absent for a bit so playing catch up!

Nothing is perfect in this world and the logistics of sorting out an Olympics on such a scale it's never going to be please everyone (Barney! ;-) So as for me I think it's great - I do hope that the stadiums/arenas that remain don't become "ghost towns" like has been the case in some past Olympics (Athens, Barcelona) but overall I think it's been a thumbs up!

Me sir, me sir, I've been positive

Well I've got to be honest, Olympic fever has definitely got the Richardson household...

You give us a sport where we can sit down, and we've got it in the bag

Only 3 days to go before Statford once again becomes a run down area, well it never really changed just glossed over by the television cameras. Will be glued to the box watching the closing ceremony show, I wonder what the theme this time will be. They could do modern Brittains ghost towns and derelect industrial estates, maybe having shown the world how the mills and factories were built during the 1800s they could show how we knocked them all back down again..... Still will be looking forward to watching the Spice girls mime once again on stage.... Girl power all the way!

Thanks,
Barney
