Leaflets Worthwhile? 21st August 2012 9:00 AM
As someone who hates junkmail and will pounce on anyone strolling down the garden path with more garbage to chuck through my letterbox I absolutely hate it, so I've always stayed away from the idea of sending leaflets / junkmail in other peoples houses.
Having said that, recently we've had a job in a block of 100 odd apartments, so just out of interest I got my printers to knock up just enough leaflets to target just this block, managed to talk them into doing it for free and if they worked I would order 10,000 flyers for other apartments. To my suprise 6 of the 100 residents came back generating over
As it happens I was given a bottle of Moet & Chandon only the other day from a customer who believe it or not I refused to charge for a simple job. However I'm sure the HMRC would say that I would need to declare this as payment in kind, I was tempted to open it last weekend when my normal 2 numbers came up on the euro lottery in fact it was 4 -
From the ammount of letters I've had over the last 2 years from HMRC I'm suprised my handsome face is not gracing Flickr From the daily mail today most of these people were just bringing in millions of ciggarettes. You could argue that if the overall tax burden on consumers was reduced then there would be a reduction in the black markets. The same can be said for red diesel, plenty of vehicles driving around on the roads with this stuff in the tank....
Interest Rates 15th August 2012 8:50 PM
As a plumber and according to HMRC I have a huge wad of cash underneath the mattress so interest rates have little effect on me
Seriously though I guess it depends which side of the fence you are sitting on, my mortgage rate tracks the BoE base rate plus 1/2% so I'm currently saving around
Olympics farewell - final thoughts? 14th August 2012 1:44 PM
All they need to do now is find some dodgy accountants to balance the books and make us all believe it was a financial success. I think I would have warmed to it more had British companies and local businesses been involved, which is what it was sold to us when bidding for the games. So much more could have been done for the UK as a whole. They've already lost a few quid on this deal But it's not their money to lose, it's mine and yours and every other taxpayers. No one in their right mind constructs a complex such as this to sell at a loss, like I said it's not their money and their do the same thing with the banks...Oh they have already

How disgusting can someone get? 10th August 2012 9:35 PM
Thats the human species for ya, we love to bully, we love to kill, we love to be damn right nasty it's in all of our genes.... Yet we think we're intelligent and above all other things. You will always get people being or trying to be controversial just to get noticed Frankie Boyle springs to mind some people find him funny many find him disgusting. Personally I can't stand the accent so I switch off. As for Gary Barlows loss, he is of no interest to me nor is anyone else in the public domain / media so I don't and I know it may sound harsh I don't feel anything either way about his loss, it's one of those things that happens to thousands of other parents every year and is part of life. If it was family or close friends then I would feel different, but for someone I have never met then I have no feelings either way for them, its their business and their business alone to deal with....
Olympics 10th August 2012 12:30 PM
Only 3 days to go before Statford once again becomes a run down area, well it never really changed just glossed over by the television cameras. Will be glued to the box watching the closing ceremony show, I wonder what the theme this time will be. They could do modern Brittains ghost towns and derelect industrial estates, maybe having shown the world how the mills and factories were built during the 1800s they could show how we knocked them all back down again..... Still will be looking forward to watching the Spice girls mime once again on stage.... Girl power all the way!
Olympic Seats 8th August 2012 4:41 PM
It's hardly suprising the seats are half empty, when the so called 100s of special buses both single and double deckers are whizzing along the special Olympic route with just one or two passengers aboard and as per normal there are three or four buses in convoy at a time. As the main stadium has a capacity of around 80,000 add to that say another 5000 for the cheats, sorry competitors, workers and officials and say another 100,000 for all the satellite sporting venues across London. Now compare that to the 3million plus people who work in central London trying to keep the economy running who were all told to stay away, then begged to come back into London. Yes the GB team may have won a few smarties in their chosen fields, but it is costly to the majority of Londoners...
