A bit of an embarrassment to say the least, I don't believe for one minute that all these empty seats were dedicated for the use of corporate sponsors, more likely to do with overpriced ticket sales. Even now they are still trying to flog tickets for up to Thanks, Barney
Said on the news last night they were going to give the seats to squaddies, students and teachers. Bit of a balls up though ![]()
To be fair this happens quite a bit at the Olympics and some other major sporting events so it doesn't come as a big surprise. Think at Beijing they put a number of school kids into venues so that they wouldn't be masses of empty seats on TV. There will be events like the 100m men's final were there are unlikely to be mainy empty seats but you can't force corporate sponsors to show up, they should really of reduced the number of corporate and media allocations in the first place but they don't really have a choice. As for Lord Coe of course he is bound to say the games have been a success, would be surprised if he said anything else. Accounting Help
Well they are even using the army now, but as they are already over stretched, either at war, carrying out security at the Olympics or having already been laid off, they still can't fill them. I'd be quite happy if they gave all these empty seats to London's council tax payers who had to pay an extra levy towards this, thereby freeing up the congested roads to allow the majority of people who work in Central London to earn a living. Thanks, Barney
Pity they didn't offer them to Veterans, those who have served and can't afford sky high prices such as these! Kamikazicowgirl
Yeah the ticket fiasco was a bit of a headliner. At least the track and field draw was at max capacity. And hopefully some of the veterans were able to get some good seats for that one last night. Arrowhead3
Seems like now tickets which were held by the 'Olympic family' have been sold on despite the strict no reselling policy. It's disgusting to see people who get a ticket for no reason still try to make money that we have to pay for ParagonHRSolutions
It's a massive task to put on and a lot deals must be done for tickets in return for investment. With so many sponsors I wouldn't like the job of chasing up the sponsors and different organisations to check why they're not being used. I think there were very few tickets left because of price. I went to see the football in Cardiff as they were the only tickets I could get it and it was well worth it and at just ukstorage
“..we enjoyed our slice of the Olympics. Even if my daughter's favourite bit was dancing to the football at half time...” My mum and sister (both horsey people) have gone down to see the Equestrian stuff and had no problems getting tickets. Prob more of a niche sport and not that mainstream popular, but with the success the 4 legged trotting community are having, I've no doubt they are having a ball ![]()
Also I think some of the spare seats were intended for athletes if they wanted to watch their team members but at the start of the games not many had the free time to use them! enterprisepe |
