Groupon model - is it flawed? 20th November 2012 1:33 PM
The only people who make money with Groupon, is Groupon. And the only people who use Groupon are cheapskates who want something for nothing and expect it i.e. Go for a

Should Philip Schofield be sacked? 18th November 2012 12:24 AM
In the 50s many kids from the old work houses, care homes, single parent mothers, were taken and transported to the other side of the planet where they were abused by the Catholic priests. In the 50s, 60s & 70s you had kids in this country being abused by care home staff, approved school teachers, scout masters and so on. In the 60s, 70s & 80s it now seems that pop star idolising teens were also taken advantage of.
Ever since the early 80s when this topic first came to light on 'That's Life' for me one thing has always stood out loud and clear. And that is, in a lot of cases the abused goes on to be the abuser later on in life. If this is true, then we currently have a serious problem of today's children being abused. The problem is though people always assume it's the unkempt old man or similar, when in fact it's normally someone from within the family circle. And neither is it just men who prey on youngsters for sex.
I have no idea what they teach children in schools nowadays, but they should spend a whole day or even a week if need be in teaching kids to speak out if they are being abused, rather than hiding it for 20 plus years...
Having said all that I do think with the current legal system that a lot of innocent people have been and will continue to do so be sent to jail on the basis of one persons word against another and with no other evidence. If the compensation element was removed normally around

Groupon model - is it flawed? 14th November 2012 11:13 PM
I know of 3 plumbing company's that used Groupon to generate lots of work for them and the same 3 company's nearly went out of business simply because they could not make any money out of the contract, they ended up running around like headless chickens to earn nothing, they lost work to normal fee paying customers and to make matters even worse their reputation went out the window, when the customers who wanted something for nothing were let down with failed appointments...
National Start Up Day! 14th November 2012 11:00 PM
I certainly think it is a case of people being forced into self employment, I get more and more emails from UK based SEO consultants than I ever use to, it kind of goes pear shaped and flat on it's face when I ask to look at their own site or site that they have recently done work for... Also there are loads of self employed tradesmen just doing 2 or 3 day weeks now, even in London. Pay rates are also dropping although the actual job prices are staying the same or increasing. It would be interesting to know how many businesses that started two or three years ago have collapsed so far...
Scrap copper is very profitable, I no longer keep any copper tube on any of the vans and haven't done so for over 3 years. The amount of scrap copper I collect legally over a course of a year is...... for tax purposes and just in case the HMRC reads My local forums is around
Qype is no more! Hello Yelp 4th November 2012 5:59 PM
I like Yelp, seems that the people on that site who write reviews are real and not business owners..
The trouble with telephone answering services as I see it are as follows.
The answering service company knows nothing about the business, so cannot answer any questions other than to say to the caller "we'll pass your message on, and get someone to call you back". So I don't see the point when I already have an answerphone. I may also call someone and leave a message for them to call me back, they return the call by calling the telephone answering service who then call me to tell me the person I've asked to call me has just called... Seems a long drawn out process, with piggy in the middle making money at my expense..
Comet bought for 3rd November 2012 12:31 AM
The problem with stores like Comets is, is that once you've entered the store the chances are that by the time you've reached the other end of the store you've been pounced on by half a dozen sales staff, whos sole mission in life is to get you to take out an extended worthless warranty. The days of getting electrical goods repaired have long gone, it's a throw away lifestyle now. People want to keep up with the 'Jones' if the neighbour has a gadget then you want one better. I don't think I've seen a television repair man for over 20 odd years, yet as a kid every 6 months or so the television repair chap would visit and replace a valve or something... No PCB's then
