Should Philip Schofield be sacked?

In the UK at the moment, and I've no doubt this has gone round the world by now, child abuse scandals are reaching hysteria proportions mainly fuelled by the media after the revelations of Jimmy Saville came to light.

It looks like there are a lot of unanswered questions, mainly why subsequent police investigations never seem to get anywhere, a lack of confidence in the system, and the feeling there are few public high flyers out there who have a sordid past who have yet to be revealed.

But regardless of faults or perceived faults with previous Police Investigations, there seems to be a genuine attempt to try and put right some wrongs of the past and bring people to justice. So shouldn't we now leave this to the Police and let them investigate properly, who have the spot light firmly on them, instead of media fuelled hysteria and speculation?

A daytime talkshow host, Philip Schofield decided to ambush the Prime Minister on his show by handing a list of names, including MP's that were rumoured to be involved in child abuse. As if this wasn't bad enough, he then inadvertently held the list so it was picked up by a camera on live TV, a mistake but a shocking one.

I thought we had moved on from the days of witch hunts, and it looks like TV presenters have now taken over as Judges.

Personally I think he should be sacked and thank god I don't have to watch daytime telly!

Hmm. Daytime telly is like a radio playing in a ghost town (IMHO). Its limited to housewives, the odd few on holiday, and from what I remember, shows rely on ratings to survive (I stand corrected - I'm not in the TV business).

Either way, it still boils down to one thing. He was using demographics to boost ratings. Taking two subjects that can cause a stir, and combining them. No doubt he had proof, either concrete or allegations, but the "showing" of the list could hardly have been an accident. e either asked for it to be shown, or the powers above him told the camera guys to shoot it.

I believe that issues like that need to be sorted out through the right channels, and rogues that love causing a stir for the sake of getting themselves a little more fame (as the guy who took on the pm), need to be cut down to size. These are real issues with real people's lives, not a game or a way to make your channel more popular.

In short, I think he crossed the line.

Who should go though?

Schofield for allegedly doing the research - the producers for not checking his material, or did they do the research & he was told to pass it off as his own? Or the production team for cutting to the wrong camera?

It is a mess - the media as a whole have got to stop this trial by media - stop stoking the fires & let the proper authorities do their work and find out the guilty and punish them to the full extent of the Law.

Then publish away after a fair trail has been carried out - stop pretending we need to know as a newsworthy story - stop hiding behind the freedom of the press - no-one deserves to be publicly accused of anything until a Court of Law has decided their fate!

In the 50s many kids from the old work houses, care homes, single parent mothers, were taken and transported to the other side of the planet where they were abused by the Catholic priests. In the 50s, 60s & 70s you had kids in this country being abused by care home staff, approved school teachers, scout masters and so on. In the 60s, 70s & 80s it now seems that pop star idolising teens were also taken advantage of.
Ever since the early 80s when this topic first came to light on 'That's Life' for me one thing has always stood out loud and clear. And that is, in a lot of cases the abused goes on to be the abuser later on in life. If this is true, then we currently have a serious problem of today's children being abused. The problem is though people always assume it's the unkempt old man or similar, when in fact it's normally someone from within the family circle. And neither is it just men who prey on youngsters for sex.
I have no idea what they teach children in schools nowadays, but they should spend a whole day or even a week if need be in teaching kids to speak out if they are being abused, rather than hiding it for 20 plus years...
Having said all that I do think with the current legal system that a lot of innocent people have been and will continue to do so be sent to jail on the basis of one persons word against another and with no other evidence. If the compensation element was removed normally around

Thanks,
Barney

Not sure if he should but someone should have definitely done some in depth research and try and confirm there sources before directing his questions to The Prime Minister.
