It's the shame he is not going to be in the Dragon's Den again. This TV show is really great opportunity for the start-ups and it shows how entrepreneurial and innovative our nation is!

Must admit i miss Theo, but as Pubby says they all seem to tie in with each other now, think Duncan did invest in one person last series on his own but he's not the prolific investor that he used to be, infact none of them are - maybe its had its day?

Morrisons escalate the price war 2nd May 2014 11:30 AM

I live in the middle of Tescos, Sainsburys and Morrisons, possibly Morrisons is the closest, yet i seem to prefer Sainsburys as a general rule, but do shop in both.

Forum oldies will know about my battle with Tesco's so rarely set foot in one now, even when i'm forced to for the few bits the others dont offer i tend to drive 10 miles so not to use my local !!!

Will watch the prices with interest in Morrisons and see if they can woo me to buy more products.

Apple or PC 2nd May 2014 11:25 AM
If you have the money to spare, buy a Mac, they're really are beautiful bits of kit, they're a joy to use and they retain their value.

As a complete non techie. i get given a lappy as a work horse, it dies usually within 2 years ( i have a gift!) sometimes 3,  i have no idea if Mac or PC is the way to go.

But picking up on the residual value, as a business i thought PC's de-value over a number of years (i think its 3years) so why does it matter that a Mac retains its value if in the accountants eyes its worth pretty much nothing after its shelf life?

I have to agree with Trena, see Gas Safe will not get involved, simply because their remit is solely to do with gas safety, why would they want to get involved with more paperwork and administration? Now I can become an approved contractor, started to do the application last year, but there are now so many bodies acting as agents for the approved scheme, I think I was being quoted somewhere near £700 per annum to become so called approved and the only thing I could see of benefit was to be able to use a logo. The customers I guess are slightly better protected but that was about it. Something didn't seem right to me, so I backed out.”

Is there still one central governing body for gas instillations? You say there are many agents out there, can you not apply directly with Gas Safe, assuming they are the main one, or is it like an insurance policy, its best to use a broker for advice?

Of course - one has to get the priorities right !

"but" you simply can't correct a mistake or miscarriage of justice when the victim is dead. I would never risk condemning one innocent man to death in favour of killing thousands of guilty offenders because their lives will never equall that of an innocent man.

just a thought.

Totally agree that the death penalty can not be reversed, presume thats why they sit for so long on death row in America to rule out pardons etc.

But you could apply the death sentence to those that clearly are guilty, Lee Rigbys killers are just one example, Dr Shipman, Ian Brady... could go on - these people were found unequivocally guilty and sentenced to Life, although now not sure if Dr Shipman got to trial before he killed himself, anyway my point remains that the death penalty still could be used.

Still like my idea of giving them the choice, hard labour or death by choosing a method. That should take away the guilt of someone having to feel guilty about being the "executioner"

Oh dear tesco not doing so well! 1st May 2014 11:47 AM

I have always said that these "free" points are far from free but some cracking marketing and it seems you can have the public eating out your hand.

Sometimes the promise of extra points if you buy a product you didnt actually want seems to work, (well it did on my ex-partner), which if you work out actually amount of points versus reward it amounts to pennies at the end of the month/year .....

I agree stop the loyalty points and just do what we all want and reduce the costs of food even more !

Thought i would try and re-kindke this debate with the news yesterday that a botched execution resulted with the inmate suffering a heart attack after the drugs injected failed to work properly due to the possibility of a blown vein!

Seems there are pro's and con's (pardon the pun) to executions, but also seems to be a lot of support for life in prison, but why should i support a convicted killer, who serves no purpose in life other than to rot in a cell. Is this humane, or is it "kinder" to exterminate them? Or is that just a blood lust from a supposedly civilised society?

For those that are lifers, why not put them to good use and work them, make them earn their comfortable surroundings, x-box's etc, i have to earn to buy them so why should they get them provided?

For those that face a life in prison, give them a choice - live out the rest of your days doing hard labour, paying your way or if you dont want to do that you can be strapped to an electric chair, dangle from a rope, or swallow a cocktail of drugs (much like you do if you travel to Zurich with a terminal illness)

To all those fellow F1 fans, i'm sure you will be remembering today the tragic loss of Ayrton Senna 20 years ago at the San Marino GP.

A tragic weekend that also saw the loss of Roland Ratzenberger in qualifying the day before, when he crashed out at over 190mph due to a damaged wing that failed later around the circuit.

So whilst we all remember the great Ayrton Senna, perhaps reflect also on the other racing driver that died in the pursuit of his sport.
