Whether your site is actually any good or not will often determine if/when it gets listed.

Dmoz is something you just fire quality sites at and forget.
If you discover a Dmoz link in your backlinks it's a blessing, but I wouldn't bother checking it every week or anything.

It's a nice idea, but a phone is too small. I can see it working on an iPad though.

It works in America because there are so many more people, but I really can't see it generating decent volumes of traffic in the UK. Our cities just aren't big enough.

That said, it was helpful when I used to work up in London.

Social media is a great way of increasing your regular readership and getting people to come back and visit you over and over, but you still need a selling strategy and content or pre-order pages to point all that traffic to.

People aren't as likely to buy something off their own backs unless you put it right in front of them.
