If you are like me and have a tendency to collect domains, then you probably use some form of domain parking service like SEDO and try and earn a couple of pennies.
I noticed Google also started advertising this service, and moved all my domains over from SEDO last year, but it looks like Google has given up on the idea and are scrapping the service.
If you use adsense to monetize any parked domains, then here are Googles key dates for 2012:
22 February: AdSense publishers can no longer start using the Hosted domains product.
21 March: You will no longer be able to create new hosted domains.
18 April: Hosted domains will become inactive and it will no longer be possible to earn from them.
27 June: Hosted domains will no longer be available in AdSense accounts.
Doesn't google have a tendecy to do stuff like this as in deciding to get go into a field that they are not particularly known for them after a short period of time decide that its not worked and decide to abandon it, with the possibility of launching a slightly similar product in the future and the circle continues. Considering how much Google must make from Adsense, this seems crazy. I mean, I make about FreelanceScribbler

I've looked at this in the past and wondered if it would be better to create a cheap web site so that the domain name can gain some links and the domain grow older so that by the time it's sold or you use it the domain has more value to it. Anyone done this? ukstorage

Anyone done this?” Cost versus reward. Most domains are only relevant to you, so unlikely to be worth anything in reality, then you have time/cost/effort of building and hosting a site to put it on, plus effort of link building etc. Guess that's why parked domain services are so popular. If you have a domain name that someone wants, they will contact you regardless of where or what it's associated with, parked or not parked. Judging from how well adsense pays, i wouldn't have imagined people would have been paid that well by the service. So maybe good riddance. I've never been too impressed by adsense payouts compared to how much they make from charging the advertisers. 50cents |
