House buying in Scotland 9th January 2014 12:07 PM
Sometimes it's easier when a real person explains it to you, simply.

Also, it wasn't just a page of properties, it was a page of properties that were an example of why I was confused as there were so many different terms, most of which seemed to mean the same thing.

But thanks for your help...

Can anyone shed any light on this? We're relocating next year and I've been having a quick look to get a rough idea of prices etc and I thought the main difference was that in Scotland you have to pay to have a survey done before you put an offer, in but looking at this Countrywide North estate agents Shawlands | Property for sale has confused me even more, what's the difference between an asking price and 'offers over'? And some have the asking price while others just have the price.
What does it all mean??

Cheers.

A friend and I were discussing a film I totally forgot about that definitely deserves a mention here, Bad Lieutenant. The Herzog/Nic Cage remake.

One of those rare occasions when the fact that Cage is a great actor really comes through. Plus it's by Werner Herzog so it's completely bonkers.
Have some adverts had their day? 19th June 2013 4:18 PM
I used to love the ones for a type of beauty product (teeth whitening/facial scrub) supposedly designed by a middle-aged mum. The ad then explains that whatever field of experts are linked to her miracle discovery all hate her (dermatologists HATE her).

Used to make me chuckle.
Chrome overtakes IE globally 19th June 2013 3:50 PM
I use chrome, just because it's fast and light. I also have a couple of devices, so being able to bookmark something on one device and have it their on the other is very handy. I also use gmail pretty heavily. And a Google wallet. I think it's safe to say Google have their hooks in me.

(God only knows what they are doing with me information)
If I ever get a chance I usually give Head Records a mention. Small semi-indie record stores dotted around the UK. I know there are ones in Bath, Lemington Spa and Belfast. Visited the Belfast store and they told me about the others.

Sell CD's, DVD's and most importantly Vinyl. Staff all actually know what they're talking about which is nice.

(I know that sounds like an ad for them, but it's nice going into a record store where the staff are actually attentive...not always the case).
Don't help your kids get jobs! 19th June 2013 1:10 PM
I think it's human nature to want to do everything you can for your child. I think there's a difference between helping them get a job (by refining their CV and kicking there butt as indizine said) and doing all the work for them.

As long as you show them how and give them the tools to do it themselves, there's nothing wrong with it.

And clearly Mr Caan is working on a 'Do as I say, not as I do' system

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels is excellent, haven't seen it in years, will have to fix that asap.

I always give Three Amigos a plug as it seems to be one people don't know as well. And with Chevy Chase and Martin Short in tow, it really deserves more of a look in.

It's not just you sjr4x4! I find these things only happen at the worst possible time. When it rains, it pours as they say...

I think in this case, emergency goatees are fine. If anyone questions it, just claim to be your own evil doppelganger a la Star Trek.

Stay strong and good luck!
