House buying in Scotland

Can anyone shed any light on this? We're relocating next year and I've been having a quick look to get a rough idea of prices etc and I thought the main difference was that in Scotland you have to pay to have a survey done before you put an offer, in but looking at this Countrywide North estate agents Shawlands | Property for sale has confused me even more, what's the difference between an asking price and 'offers over'? And some have the asking price while others just have the price.
What does it all mean??

Cheers.

I'd have thought it was just easier to Google it

I also don't see why a page advertising properties would confuse you.

Sometimes it's easier when a real person explains it to you, simply.

Also, it wasn't just a page of properties, it was a page of properties that were an example of why I was confused as there were so many different terms, most of which seemed to mean the same thing.

But thanks for your help...

From what I've heard, it's all about sealed bids and there's no gazumping like you get in England, which has to be a good thing! According to Scottish mates, it's supposed to be a fairer system, but never experienced it myself.

Love Scotland, and quite fancy the idea of relocating to Scotland, certainly lots of house for your money (compared to Warwickshire anyway!). But knowing my luck Scotland would go independent and I'll end up having to pay some kind of Englishman immigrant tax

Best of luck on the move, hope it goes smoothly
