Even CEO's blag their CV's! 17th May 2012 10:20 AM
I think to a certain degree CV embellishments are a standard practise, of course you can go to far, for example claiming that you have a degree or that you speak Swahili is probably a step to far. I think if 1000 cv's were forensically checked for authenticity then a massive percentage of them (Over half) would have a few white lies.

Working within the recruitment industry I've really seen the cross spectrum of fib's on CV's from fictional jobs to fictional degrees. I'd say that in my experience the top two most common lies are the period of time spent in a particular job, and the level of responsibility held in a particular position. So many people promote themselves from admin assistant to office manager. The only reason it's discovered is because as an agency we enforce thorough vetting and referencing checks
A space to vent 17th May 2012 10:08 AM
Hectic last few weeks, Hence my lack of forum presence.

Loads of new candidates through the door, and loads of interviews happening. Stress central, people getting offered jobs, people rejecting jobs. Can't complain though all part and parcel of the recruitment game !! The cherry on top is that I place quite a few temp contracts :-) which were all pretty much signed sealed and delivered in a week which is pretty unusual.

Vent over

Anybody else had any big stresses over the last few weeks ?
Hi Forum,

I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on what the best way to offer your services to other businesses is. What has worked for you ?

This thread was prompted by a cold calling stationary salesmen who just knocked on the office door. We didn't buy anything but it made me ask the question is cold calling a good approach. It may work for product orientated businesses but can you apply it to recruitment for example (My industry).

Hi Steve,

You must be a man of Stamina, believe it or not I haven't made it to the end of a Godfather film without falling asleep. I've tried but I just cant do it, they are epically long.

Also the crazy thing about the first matrix film is that for me it wasn't so much about special effects. It was more about the amazing concept behind the film. Without going to deep I believe that lots of people live in a bubble, they choose to live a fake beautiful plastic life instead of embracing reality warts and all, and of course the system is the the government and the general establishment, who want to keep people inside this bubble consuming products they don't actually need, and "Living the dream".

Quick disclaimer, despite the above I am not a anarchist . I believe we need a goverment etc etc. I just like the concept of the film alot

Goodfellas is a top film, but more of a Godfather bloke personally, but Matrix was a cracker. Saw it recently, and I think it's already starting to look a little dated, guess that's the reality with modern CGI films

Hmmm I'm in the same boat.

I was accepted last week, I've uploaded a few posts and they've been re-pinned by a few people.

None of the things that I pinned was related to any websites were I could track the traffic that the pin created but I've read people post some ridiculous statistics about the traffic created by it.

My personal opinion is that if your business doesn't lend it's self to some form of creative or product based item then I cant see how it could drive relevant traffic to your site.

I'm still in the testing phase really, so I think we should keep this post alive so we can all trade experiences.

My main thought after reading all of these massive traffic stories is that you can channel all of the traffic you want but if people aren't carrying out your desired action at the end then it doesn't really mean anything, non of the case studys I've read have spoken about sales !! I Made up a quote, not 100% original but it is:

Traffic is vanity- Conversions are sanity

Got to say I'm slightly surprised about a few films in the list.

Here are my favourites of all time, don't think they've been mentioned so far (I did take a good look. Here they are:

Usual Suspects - For me this is the film that really started up the trend of really big twists at the end of the film. Altogether one of the best films I have ever seen. Great performances from a massive variety of well known actors. Great pace, and best of all the film doesn't over twist! Its still easy to follow. For me its the film that really put Kevin Spacey on the map for me.

Good Will Hunting - What more can I say, just a good all-round film

Austin Powers - Nothing better than a good movie to cheer you up

GoodFellas - One of the best Gangsta movies of all time, very long film. Gets a little dry towards the end. The film gave me one of my favorite quotes ever. "One day some kids from the local neighbourhood carried my Moms groceries all the way home, you know why it was outta respect". Not a prefect quote but you get the jist !!!

Matrix- Sorry but yes, it was great !!!

Hope I've helped !!!
Game Group on verge of Collapse 10th April 2012 10:51 AM
I guess this comes as a tad bit of a surprise !!!

I've always considered Game as the more formal academic, clean cut game shop. Have never been my gaming shop of choice.

I think places like Game Station and Forbidden Planet offer a more rounded and immersive gaming experience, the interior design of the stores are alot closer to what gamers expect to see, especially forbidden planet. They generally include alot of the related paraphernalia that games like, action figures, swords posters etc.

Always thought of Game as the place parents take kids to buy games, kids would go somewhere else.
Hhahah, haven't seen the postman, and your right Waterworld wasn't as bad as everybody made it out to be !!! Not sure I can say that I actually enjoyed it.

I took my little sister to see John Carter and we actually both enjoyed it. Yes the plot was a bit thin, and it was perhaps a case of special effects just for the sake of it the film didn't have it's merits. I think the film was a good example of a production company not doing its due diligence !!!

I think the release date was all wrong, they should of waited till the kids were off for Easter, that would of given it a fighting chance. All in all it was a risky film, there were no new concepts in the film and it stuck to closely to the pre scripted structure of modern day sci-fi films. Introduce stranger that has super powers, stranger meets women the end .

The plot was to predictable and it didn't really mature or grow, his super powers should of been explored more and increased. The power to jump very high will not win anybody wars !!!

Just read what I've written and it feels like I've slated the film, just to recap I did actually enjoy it still. Went after eating a nandos, got a extra scoop of chunky monkey free so maybe I was already in a good mood

The critics have been wrong before.

They said Waterworld and The Postman were rubbish but I thoroughly enjoyed them both. Mind you I'm strange.

Blockbuster UK, had no idea that Canadian and American blockbuster had disappeared already. I definitely expect the UK to follow suite, cant really say it was a shame either. I remember Blockbuster as one big hassle, hassle getting there, hassle dropping the DVD back on time (Which I hardly did).

I can't see them trying to break the online market, everyone else has such a massive head start. I think the brand name itself has lost alott of its "Weight" in recent years. Good luck to them if they try !
Hi Guys & Gals,

Thought I'd make this post because its been on my mind for a while.

How does Blockbuster Video rental still exist.

They didn't adapt quickly enough to appearance of online streaming and rental services that have much lower overheads than traditional brick and mortar stores.

My questions for everyone are:

1. How many people still travel to a video rental shop to rent DVD's ?

2. Who has tried the online rental video streaming route before, what did you think of the service (Price, speed, quality, service)

3. How long do you think stores like Blockbuster can exist.

Let the opinions run forth
