its yet another example of a high steet retailer that as fallen victim of the growth of the internet. I just cant see how the likes of Game can compete with the likes of amazon and play.com. Having 1000 shops on the high street adds a significant operating cost that the online companies dont have and to make things worse customers are preferring online shopping for products such as CDs and Games. Carrying a substantial operating cost that doesn't generate any additional revenue for you business compared to your competition is a dangerous situation for any business!

I dont think it will be long before all high street retailers of CD's, DVDs and Games have disappeared and everyone shops online

I read that story on IGN a couple days ago. That's a shame that the industry is being locked out by publishers trying to limit, if not ban used game sales in the future. Regardless of the digital age of streaming music and games, they must make it profitable for both parties. That's what the used game market provided. Stores were able to use the money they made off of used games and put a percentage towards more copies of new releases.

What a shame

I have been in Game recently and although filled with "kids" they are wizards at what they do - they play games & then use this knowledge to pass on to the "oldies" like me. Staff are really helpful in both of my local stores.

Yes perhaps you can save a few pounds by going to amazon or play but you cant ask them how to set up for optimized performance or if they know how to play split screen players, or ask an opinion on best games for the teenage sons.

Bad & sad times - hope they can pull through - sure gona miss 'um if they do go down.

Also Steve will have to start thinking about new ideas for for Christmas as he used to buy my boys a Game Voucher!

Oh dear

"The future of Game Group is hanging by a thread after it filed for administration and admitted the business was worthless"

That'll be that then...

That should make some room for some more high street charity shops..

What a shame, inevitable, but still a crying shame

I guess this comes as a tad bit of a surprise !!!

I've always considered Game as the more formal academic, clean cut game shop. Have never been my gaming shop of choice.

I think places like Game Station and Forbidden Planet offer a more rounded and immersive gaming experience, the interior design of the stores are alot closer to what gamers expect to see, especially forbidden planet. They generally include alot of the related paraphernalia that games like, action figures, swords posters etc.

Always thought of Game as the place parents take kids to buy games, kids would go somewhere else.
