Neighbours in rental properties 15th July 2016 4:44 PM

Large rockery stone cost £3.99 from a local garden centre.  Have now added smaller stones around it from garden and must admit it looks good.  More importantly, it's solved the problem!!

Neighbours in rental properties 8th July 2016 5:48 PM

Apologies in advance if I offend anyone living in a rented property. I know that some people take the view that they don't own it so why should they bother.

I live in a maisonette that has a residents car park and communal access driveway to the garage block.  A builder has recently moved into one of the properties and is causing problems for residents by driving his van constantly up and down the driveway, blocking access to residents cars, using parking spaces for turning round and driving over front gardens (including mine).

Going out tomorrow to buy a large rockery stone to place on end of front garden.  Tried a DIY shed and local builder's merchant today, with no luck.  Other neighbours not impressed with his behaviour.

Rant over, until I find out how much the stone will cost......

My late uncle, who preferred the oval ball and cricket, had a rather simplistic solution.

Basic weekly salary plus bonus of £3 for a win, £2 for a score draw, £1 for a no-score draw and just the basic pay for losing.  This was before rugby union went professional and Kerry Packer introduced big money to cricket.

My uncle was a successful businessman and had no time for people who didn't pull their weight.

Higgers- for their equipment, sleep, entourage, etc.

As a lady plane spotter, great photo!

What were they thinking?! 8th July 2016 5:25 PM

I've decided to hand out the inaugural "Stupid Act of the Month" award early and the winner is the Entertainment Team at the First Choice Aliathon Holiday Village in Paphos Cyprus.  I  know this property very well, as I've stayed in two of the beachfront hotels opposite and used their shops, bar, bank at front of the complex.

It is reported that just days after the Istanbul Airport attack, the entertainment staff staged a show containing a mock terrorist scene.  Apparently staff suddenly emerged from the kitchen firing fake machine guns.  Guests were horrified but soon realised that it wasn't a real terrorist attack.

First Choice has received a number of complaints from holidaymakers who witnessed this and also from those shortly to fly out.  A statement from the company said that they were concerned by the incident and would remind resort staff of the guidelines for staging entertainment.

Someone needs a good talking-to and possibly their P45.......

Spelling out why grammar matters 8th July 2016 5:07 PM

Grammar and spelling are key to giving a good impression.  Earlier today I read an overseas holiday review on a well-known site.  Not only was the grammar poor, but the writer used the number 2 instead of the word to.  It was fine until she referred to her 2-year-old daughter.  If it was confusing to me, imagine how the staff fared when reading it!

The one that really irritates me is incorrect use of the apostrophe.  It's now becoming popular with people who do not know the plural of words such as company.

Very funny!

Do the petitioners about the Brexit vote really think they will get it overturned.  They need to channel their energy into doing something positive to ensure this country succeeds.

Network B2b emails - SPAM 8th July 2016 4:51 PM

Never received this one, but I'm again now receiving the ones offering "enhancement of my size and performance" by little tablets or other magical devices.  Interesting as I have the other equipment!!

Can't be bothered to unsubscribe as there's more to life so just delete from Spam en masse.

Egyptair - what is going on 8th July 2016 4:44 PM

At least they have now established there was a fire; now comes the hard part of finding out how it started.  In any investigation, progress is invariably slow to ensure that the true cause is established and any lessons learned are implemented. It is an industry that is constantly evolving. I don't know the figure for Airbus A320/321, but the A380 typically has over 4 million parts which are inspected and replaced in accordance with very strict servicing schedules.  An aircraft can sometimes be out of service for up to six months for a full service.

Unfortunately, the media loves to sensationalise air crashes, especially since MH370.  A lot of "experts" suddenly appear!   The Malaysian Government was too quick to publicly speculate on the cause and just added to the relatives' distress.  The Egyptian authorities have also given conflicting reports which don't help.  Fire in the avionics bay or fire in the galley are the main theories at the moment.

I understand that "all human remains" have now been recovered so I hope families of passengers and crew have some degree of closure, whilst awaiting the final report.

And adopting the Australian system of compulsory voting would improve the democratic process, although some may then claim this to be against their civil rights.

I see that George Osborne has changed his tune yet again, with media reports saying that the UK can become a great nation again.  Make up your mind George!!
