I knew eventually I'd be eating a healthy diet

A new study says munching chocolate will make you healthy, smarter and stop heart attacks.

Well at least it was going well until I read about it in the Guardian

"This new study, based on nearly 1,000 people from New York, is not the first to link chocolate to brain function, but what it actually tells us remains very vague. “It’s not possible to talk about causality, because that’s nearly impossible to prove with our design,” said one of the researchers, meaning that we can’t tell whether clever people like chocolate or chocolate makes you clever. Or indeed if there is something messier going on."

Can chocolate make you smarter? - The Guardian

The article in the Telegraph is much better alluding to much more, making less of the facts and giving lots of great pictures of chocolate cakes

"It's good for your heart, reduces the risk of strokes and even helps protect your skin from the sun.

Now, another apparent benefit has been added to the list of chocolate's nutritional qualities: it makes you smarter.

A study, published recently in the journal, Appetite, indicated that people who eat chocolate at least once a week saw their memory and abstract thinking improve.

“It's significant – it touches a number of cognitive domains,” psychologist Merrill Elias, one of the leaders of the study, told the Washington Post."

The Sun has an even better take on it:

Yes, Smarties do have the answer: Eating chocolate DOES make you brainier - The Sun

"Study finds that people who eat sweet treat weekly get memory boost"

So in the interests of selective journalism and weak facts, I'll go with the Sun and stock up on chocolate!

Safer to just read the headlines and then stuff your face with chocolate, works for me

To be fair I actually ate minstrels during all my GCSE exams and got straight As, so maybe there's something in it. Same thing worked a couple of years ago in an Biology exam, whilst I was pregnant, had to negate the baby brain somehow. The distinction was well earned and minstrels worked their magic again, other brands of delicious chocolates are available.

And yes I am showing off a bit.

I don't eat chocolate ,does that make me dumb

Although I do have my memory issues lol flat lining twice in my life doesn't help nor did the other incidence in my life help any more ..No one ever believes me when I say what has happened in my life I've been like a cat with 9 lives

wow Andy, flatlining twice sounds a bit hairy!!! Eeek. Can't believe you don't eat chocolate though.....strange man.

Yeah lol ... I drowned and was brought back to life and stuck my fingers in a electrical plug with same result. I still have the reminders to this day of 2 heavily scared thumbs.. But that's life ,You have to accept it and do your best as there is always someone worse off than you

Well you sound pretty lucky really, that you survived that is. Maybe you're a cat

Chocolate does make you feel good so could boost your brain power.  However, it's plain chocolate that's really good for us.  Especially us ladies who can lack magnesium.  Okay, plain is regarded as the food of the devil by lots of people but the higher cocoa solids content the better.  You may only be able to eat a couple of squares but it is of some benefit.  100% cocoa solids is a step too far for me though!

Also get same feel good experience when eating Thorntons Continental (other premium chocolate brands are available).

My views & opinions are my own

Chocolate is my favorite! I believe that it has a lot of health benefits. One thing, it could be a memory booster and could provide enough energy in any daily activities. In addition to it, dark chocolate can be nutritious and can be a good source of antioxidants.

Thanks,

Hmm I need a memory booster Gail, sure my grey matter is still on holiday
