Video marketing - would you use it?

One of my clients has just had a video done for her new website (yet to be launched so can't show it to you yet).

She used a guy I had met at a networking event who impressed me and we kept in touch, so when the time came I put her in touch with him to buy direct.

I haven't asked what she paid him however, but on getting a quote for someone else last week, he's charging

Very interesting stuff.
I've been thinking a lot about getting a video made for our site.

My idea was to have 2 cars exactly the same, but one had the ECU remapped and the other was bog standard. The cars would be taken through tests to show the extra power, and also fuel economy you would get.

The trouble is the money. I had thought about bribing some media study students into doing it for their practical course work??

I do agree that with some companies it would be a complete waste of time though.

What does everyone think to my hair brained idea then? lol

Like it! Are you going atmospheric with 2 cars going up into gorgeous but isolated hilly country (hills too hilly for the bog standard ECU car), a rainstorm coming on and the sad occupants of the inferior car walking home through the deluge??????

I think video marketing has its place for certain services but not for others. I can't see it working for me but I am about to start work on a car detailing site and a video of the before and after would be a good attention grabber - a "show n tell" if you like.

We are starting to use videos on our new web site to demonstrate the safety of our pool covers.

This is a very interesting thread - I was thinking about adding video myself . It might actually do more harm then good.. Good pictures will tell a thousand words ( something like that .. )

Video marketing can work. It depends on the business and its aims.

For example : The SME I was recently employed at made a strategic decision to target the Musems & Heritage sector for niche/large scale projects.

They had an in-house guy who happens to be an amateur film-maker, put together a series of interviews and case studies in short clips via youtube that were then linked into a website dedicated to that sector.

The nature of the Museums & Heritage professionals is very communal and there's a lot of communication between professionals in that sector. These video's were flattering to the professionals involved and also to the services of the SME I was working at. They became a discussion piece amongst Museum professionals, which increased awareness of our business in that sector.

It was key to enabling the business to win several large scale projects, so it can work.

Get the right market sector and approach and video marketing can deliver, but you've got to have a clear vison of what your client base is looking for and it may be that video marketing won't work for all of your potential clients. If so, consider targetting niche sectors that you want to develop business within, I'd say.

Incidentally, if you're looking for a video maker, I have a great personal contact who can do end-to-end video production (Shoot, edit, publish etc) at very reasonable rates. I worked with him at the same SME referenced above and his work is really very good, using Mac/Final Cut Pro for a professional finish.
If anyone in the West Midlands area needs a video produced, please feel free to message me with contact details which I can pass onto him.

About to do some new videos, with my sister and myself doing a duet, she is a professional singer, I am not!

The message will be to hire a professional and not try this at home! When my sister sings at a club, they get more visitors/punters, a better night etc, if the club owners decide to sing themselves, they just put people off, sure some of you will see where this is leading! lol

This I've got to see!! Make sure you post the link when it's ready

Kip's Vid is spot on, exactly the point i was making.

its short and sweet and wthin a matter of 20 seconds you know exactly the message he is conveying, which to me should be the whole point of video.

I think some worthy comments have been put forward, especially about the type of business which is suited to it. Indizine's client is in essence selling herself,( not in an immoral way ), and her personality is what she is portraying, i would imagine in the vid, as it is this element of her service which is important to prospective clients where as Steve's line of business is not a good idea for video because how do you put across a business listing in a vid, and is it worth the expense?

Kip

Did i read it right that you did this yourself?

"Its amazing what you can do with a little imagination and an Apple Mac!"

If so i'll take down the vid thread i started right now
