Looking to find a new host for my 4 websites, (soon to be three) where do you guys host and are they any good, i mean there is cheap and there is reasonable, i need to be able to understand the person at the other end of the phone, when i ask questions. i can never understand those people at 1 and 1 they all talk funny or with accents i cant understand, so i left them 2 years ago.

Thanks,

Moved you to the IT forum

All depends what your after, traffic volume and size of your site. Options are:

dedicated - high traffic
VPS - medium traffic (virtual private server, basically an economy dedicated box)
Shared - low traffic

We use the The Planet for our dedicated boxes. Based in the US, but their datacentres and support are outstanding. (anyone who starts a "you have to based in the UK" comment risks a punch. )

We use Global Gold for our VPS server (ie this forum) Not been there long, but impressed so far, UK based, and support seems really good.

For cheap shared hosting, we use EZPZ Hosting. Very popular, cheap as chips, UK based and support seems good as well.

Hope that helps.

Hi Steve, this is a shameless plug for my own hosting company!!!

I was in the same situation as you when I started up. I signed up with one supposedly number one (aren't they all?) host and got so confused and frustrated with gobbledegook and waiting on hold for help (ha!) I dumped them and started my own web hosting business.

There are excellent hosts out there so if you choose a large company, stick with the known ones and avoid the $1 a week cowboys despite the temptation to save cash (you won't , they'll nickel and dime you in the end) .. you'll get what you pay for.

So please take a look at my set up. I won't go into a self promoting lecture. The important points are. . . a real person to talk to in plain English any time you need help for FREE and so on . . .
cheers, Paul

Second vote for ezpz hosting

I have used many hosting companies and these guys are the best by a mile!

Shameless plug here too... hope that's OK Steve

I fully understand the need to speak to someone and at your level, whether that be high/medium/low. We have customers at all levels and in that respect we can handle queries of all levels and can assist with migration from another host if required.

We offer UK based shared & managed hosting options (Windows and Linux with Plesk control panel). We aren't the cheapest but we incorporate our support in to our monthly or annual hosting packages and our customers stay with us long term not only because of our reliability but because we can always be reached on the end of the phone. If you are interested check out our website or if you have specific questions drop me a PM

Thanks,

Simon

hmmm...my personal experience is with Dreamhost. Not expensive and not cheap either -- but the service is great -- nice support, email or chat. They are also US based.

I know, by the time this is posted, you already set up you site somewhere -- but I gotta put my two pence in

i can recommend TuckTail.com, its where i host my clients websites, they are indeed good

hmmm, a hosting company with adsense all over the home page.... says it all....

And the adsense show where you can get hosting from.
