So just how do people think they best way to get clients are? Do you use telesales or have any good methods of getting and securing new clients?

The obvious forms of this would be

Banner Ads, Directories, Forums, Friends, Newspapers

My personal approach is to write a blog, post in forums and keep my website up to date with useful information.

Also, trying to climb up the Google search results is an ongoing battle :-)

Telesales, spam or any sort of pressurised selling do not appeal to me as a customer so I wouldn't use them to attract customers.

I've spent a very small amount on Google AdWords, I'm not convinced it generates any sales though.

Online all the way, old school sales approach doesn't work for us, pavement pounding, cold calling etc.

Passive conversions via general online marketing, and active conversions via adwords.

Trust me it works. You need to have a good experiment with it, but it's worth the investment in time.

Ok so if you were a new business how would you do this as some methods cost money

Depends on the business surely?

eg a sandwich shop would be better off with local flyers, an online business would be better off spending any budget on an optimised website.

Any new business on/off line or both requires funding of some sort. To think otherwise is to invite disaster.

Getting as clear a picture as you can of your customers helps a great deal - it guides you on what's likely to work and what isn't.

Our individual and corporate customers are thinly scattered across wide areas of the UK, locations of major importance being London and the South East, Birmingham and surrounding areas, Manchester, etc. We can only reach them online, through press articles and occasionally via informal networking.

Keep in touch with them, frequently updating your site i.e. keep changing it as per their requirements. Last but not the least your behavior to them, it is very strong factor that fetch not only the old customers but also attracts new customers too.

reaching clients through business software's would be much easier according to me!

Keep your web site fresh, give away some FREE info that they can get anywhere and write interesting articles, also have a blog.
