I have a EDU link, it is based somewhere out in Vietnam, whether it is of much use I have no idea. I employed a so called top seo company in the UK who charged

I have my doubts about the true value of the .edu links that are available for sale. The ones I have seen on offer are typically blogs from 'eligible people' in a given academic institution.

From time to time I have seen .edu blogs for sale etc.

The thing is how daft or clever is Google? Surely Google can tell the diference between self generated blog links from a part of a website that is freely available from a link off a good page of the .edu domain. If it can't do it now I reckon it will be able to soon enough as it is.

Yes, Edu links are daddy of all the backlinks. As it gives authority backlinks which helps to get quality one way backlink for your website

I have a couple of dozen .edu and .gov links they don't seem to give any better results that links from other established sites.

That is not to say that they are not useful.

That's quite interesting. Do you think it's because .gov or edu ones that you can get your site onto become devalued once they are advertised?

I've seen a few of these advertised in various places, and often thought it's going to invite all kinds of potential link spam.

Or do you think the extension no longer has any bearing, and it's purely down to page content, and domain authority?

I think its because the ones I get offered are not that strong a site in the first place.

So for example a small college connected to a local UK council is unlikely to have the authority or weight of back links that say Harvard University would have.
