Hi all
i have a problem and have no idea where to turn, so here i am.
my daughter has no landline telephone line and does not want one due to teenagers in the house.
BUT she requires the internet for uni. she has an old computer in the house that we gave her when i upgraded but i am thinking along the lines of a laptop that can connect to the internet wherever she may be. i am sure that somewhere i have seen computers that can do this and dont need a dongle. And as i understand it she can pay monthly similar to her phone or pay as she goes for the internet.
Can anyone help point us into the right direction as to what i am looking for please, she does not have a lot of money as she is a single parent but she is prepared to buy a new unit so that it will see her through the 6 years at uni.
advice will be gratefully appreciated

Thanks,

I used a dongle all the time (before getting ipad) and think they are brilliant!

My understand is the 3 dongle is the best for data at the moment in value terms

3 Dongle but with all dongles check coverage where the thing is going to be most used.

Also she could use skype with the dongle for the phone issue - you can get a skype number (has voicemail) cheap calls and free to other skye users.

tomsk

If she doesn't need internet outside her home, she doesn't need any dongle and can use any broadband services without phone(e.g. virgin). I remember one BT broadband ad where they mentioned using your home internet anywhere. So that would be handy if she needs it(But BT needs phone line I think.. not sure!). Ok here is the link. Other option would be using home broadband at home and get a cheap (

looks like a dongle it is, all we have to do now is find a laptop that suits her budget, i have an account with network 3 and they have the worst signal i have ever had, so much so that i opened another orange account so that the calls were not dropped as was happening with 3. however their Dongles may be a better service. i will look into it further. Thanks for your help

I think you need a network solution. you will use croce cabling technique and share your internet with local ara card.

cant do that as she lives 20 miles away and is not on the internet, but thanks anyway, she has sorted the problem since we listened to ideas on here and have adapted them to suit her lifestyle
