Becoming a Non Smoker

Day by day the non smoker is building one experience per day of being a non smoker V's all of those days as being a smoker - psychology explains that this is how a non-smoker can be a little jittery as really to the mind this is a new experience to the mind it has to consciously keep reminding itself of the new choice...

Fascinating stuff, and explains why it is so hard at first, but having stopped now for a few years, all my recent memories are now as a non smoker, and the thought or even smell of a cigarette sends very negative signals in my mind.

One interesting thing here in the UK, is ever since the smoking ban in buildings and pubs, restaurants etc, I personally very rarely come into contact with a smoker, and the few times I do, maybe someone walking past in the street, the smell is more overpowering maybe because it has become so unfamiliar.

I'm all for this proposed banning of any marketing on cigarette packs and the hiding of tobacco products away from sight in shops. Hopefully the younger generations won't have to put up with this curse, and eventually they will simply disappear into the history books, along with leaded petrol.

The body gets hammered really by smoking, not limited to just the smoker, people taking in secondary smoke can also suffer from a limited experience - smell, taste and even touch becomes quickly re-aligned after the habit is broken.

Your re-action to the smell is a good sign.

As we approach the end of this debate i simply wanted to add that I am now 8 weeks in to being an ex-smoker, a non smoker or arguably a "recovering" ex-smoker.

Whatever you want to call it, my health has improved, my overdraft has reduced, my family are more content and it was possibly the best decision I have made in the last few years.

A massive thanks to everyone from MLF who have had a giggle and made contributions to this topic, it has been a great source of support for me

What to give up next?

Thanks,
