I'll be honest, this took me by surprise. My Norton AV updated itself, and then decided to give me some antivirus news, which was this link:
Can Your Car Be Hacked?

Something I've never worried about, and my daily drive, a Nissan Patrol Battle bus is a bit light on features and technology, so I'm alight, but is this really a genuine issue?

Has anyone considered car security relating to computer devices? Are there iphone apps that can open your car doors and disable your engine?

Funny you should mention this, but having recently taken a new van to Protectavan in Essex (had new slam locks fitted) The guy there explained that it is now possible to get the key code via a PDA or laptop within minutes and the owner would be none the wiser. And it can be done on most vehicles, which kind of begs the question what are the manufacturers doing about it? I've only ever bought Renault Trafic vans over the last 15 years, the reason being was that Renault supposedly won awards for its 18 point security system on its vans, even winning the grand title of 'International van of the year' So I was somewhat shocked when a colleague said to me, that it was possible to just pull the plastic handles off with a little bit of force.

Thanks,
Barney

Blimey, so it is a potential issue! You'd think the higher end motors would be protected against this as they are naturally going to be the target, then it normally filters down to the average saloon.

Used to be the mighty tennis ball myth that was the scourge of central locking and car security, now it could be the iphone

Guess this is something we will hear more of in the coming months and years!
