Oh Microsoft Microsoft Microsoft, what have you done?

I try and stay loyal when all around you people ridicule and mock, but then you bring out windows 7 just as I arrive at Vista, then you took my perfectly working multi tabbed browser ver 7, upgraded to ver 8 and now the dam thing crashes about 3 times a day... ahhhhhhhh

Used chrome for ages, mainly for the multi tab feature, but will confess to prefering IE rather that chrome, and never been a firefox fan, so moved back when IE7 came out.

It seems if you open 2 browsers as I do, (one on each monitor) and then have about 6 tabs open in each, its just a matter of time before it hangs and self recovers. Annoying frustrating, and another memory hogging microsoft application

Obviously 4GB RAM in these modern times is painfully inadequate and we should all be running 4 x quad cores with 16GB RAM just so we can open a bloody broswer and access the internet, which if memory serves, my old 486 managed to do quite well with IE 1 and Netscape Navigator without crashing. Obviously open notepad at the same time then it would perform "an illegal operation", ahh memories

Friday rant over, if Kip makes one mention about Mac's I'll drive over to Leicestershire with a posse

Come one Stevey R Firefox all the way dude. stop playing with these mickey mouse browsers.

Stavros

Yes must admit Steve, I do like MFF, works well with my upgraded half a gig of RAM. pees me off sometimes when I shut it and go to open it again and I get the darned error message telling me a browser is still open or similar and I have to wait a minute or two.

i use IE when going into MS office online cos it hates MFF. tried Chrome but found it didn't offer much more. No, must admit I am indeed a MFF convert.

HI SMART H&S Solutions

I am defo with you there on FF and MS sites. I have to use IE when I try to access my software bank on tehcnet. FF just throws errors everywhere.

I was with FF since day dot and it just keeps getting better and better.

The only thing that needs fixing is the memory footprint that is what causes your error when you close FF it is still unloading its threads and mem blocks and wont let you start another sessions until its finished.

Stavros

Stavros, that explains it then and it is not just my wind-up compute that gets this problem. I wonder why they don't fix this pronto? It does get frustrating.

Well if you used a bloody Mac instead of that Double Glazed unit, (Windows?) you would not need a 16g quad action, the ironic thing is that mine is pentium based, and yet it flies along and a more than acceptable speed, but to be fair I do have to clean the cache every couple of weeks! haha.

I think the problem with mine is that with these open:
Thunderbird Mail
Preview
Photoshop
Dreamweaver
Chrome (4 tabs)
Firefox (8 Tabs)
iTunes
FileZilla ftp

it still tanks along with no issues!

hmmfff....

maybe I'll download FF and give it another try...

Maybe that will shut up old flashermac kip

Ok I've tried, but IE8 is just too buggy and its memory footprint too big.

Chrome just doesn't do it for me as my main browser, so thought I'd revisit firefox after all.

Take it all back, first impressions, its moved on since the last time I played with it a few years ago...

Mem footprint seems a lot smaller, and touchwood, it hasn't hung yet. Installed the samfind plugin to sort my commonly used favourites as icons on the tool bar, alexa and google plugin and its just about there! I do like the alexa status at the bottom of the screen

Shall now consign IE to the bin...

You happy now Stavros?
