Google is great for searching and related products, however when it come down to google site, I felt very frustrated.
1. Instead of putting "save" button in the end of page, it is at the top of page, I got lost at the first few times using it.
2. A couple of times, its help documents is out of date, for example it may state click 1-2-3, actually, it should be 1-2
3. I also felt it's difficult to use its online support forums.

Which Google product are you referring to here? Google + perhaps? Thanks, Dreamraven
i use google for business business not for personals, and depend on what one can bring traffic to me. Google + is good for SEO, indexed by Google search, unlink facebook or twitter, but it didn't bring me any traffics yet. (I slowly understood how to use it now, it's not very pleasure to begin with in my experience). I like google place (called Google+ Local now), which is a must have for business, and google analytics and webmaster tools, because all are free and do the job. I was thinking google reach is using google analytics to generate data for google ranking, I read they take user experience into account for Google ranking. On the other hand, google is so powerful now, I read some years ago, a few of web analitics tools, once Google analytics was out, only 1 or 2 still are in operation. I wouldn't want to see only tesco selling foods in high street. I have some years experience and degree in computers, but it's just so frustrated to following some google help documents, errors and no one seems caring to fix it in google. For example, i followed documents to put a javascript (Jquery) on Google site, i had to add a line of code to make it work. even don't mention Google map api, i spent about 1 hour to find out Version 3 unlike version 2 didn't need API keys anymore. In short, google's good and like to be difference but at least they should keep their documents up-to-date. Thanks, Design promote
I know what you mean. Google is now a way of life, and with some of the great tools they provide (for free) they are pretty indispensable for most businesses. But I do get the feeling sometimes that some of their developers are not that experienced or aren't used to a professional change control environment, with some tools or apps getting released which are too buggy, or big changes made to layouts which are just dropped on us. It feels sometimes like I'm using tools from a development lab. Other odd things as well go against normal convention, such as us mere mortals are used to saving things, when we make changes. But in the Google world (such as the settings panel on Chrome), any changes are automatic and don't need to be saved. That's probably more efficient, and means less risk of accidently not saving, but my brain likes to see a "save" button. Also, Google must have a huge UX (user experience testing) team, but I can't believe they all agreed that the latest search bar, with the tabs across the top (web images maps etc) is more logical and better than when it was down the left hand side. Me personally, I regularly use time tab, ie search for documents within a time frame to cut down some of the old rubbish. On the left menu it was displayed, now along the top I have to click "search tools" and then select the "any time" tab to choose an option. As for the constant G+ Local listings that show up above the organic results, but below the sponsor results, this is shameless self marketing, which reduces genuine organic results to below the fold ![]() But Google give plenty of positives, as already said, some superb and free toolsets, and for me, good revenue generating potential with things like adsense. Maybe a bit of genuine competition would reign in a bit some of the developers, and they would then give a bit more thought to businesses, who seem to be second class citizens these days, but actually provide a lot of the content, rather than just the end users ![]() |
