anyone here use python in their company? They have a wee trademark problem with another company and are looking for evidence of use of python by companies in the UK. Can you help them? if yes please see link below Python Software Foundation News: Python trademark at risk in Europe: We need your help!

this poses an interesting question about trademarking how many have trademarked their business names and/or will now think about it?

Why on earth would anyone want to donate money to protect a company's trademark??!! The originator should have thought to have protected it with a trademark before now. The "original" Python surely makes money, it should get a loan or the directors should remortgage their homes to pay for the legal costs. It's their business after all, the one they will have been taking profits from over the 20 years, and will continue to do so.

it was more for evidence rather than donation of money - actually didn't see the bit about donation of money just evidence which was more interesting.

"evidence" may well help them, but they should still have trademarked it. These stories are nothing new though. Happens all the time.

It looks like they have enough community support now and are close to an agreement.

But Trademarking wise, is down to the business owner and if they see any value in it, and as Indizine says, the owners should have long thought about it.

I'm a fan of it, and Trademark our logos. It costs a few quid, takes a few months, but gives you some protection in the UK. Doesn't stop toerags ripping you off in other countries, but then a forum post can always fix that
