Anyone got a clue? thought it would be straight forward like me iphone, is it heck can receive emails although can not send, anyone got any ideas? Surely there is something straightforward for this to work and i cannot see how it can be different from the iphone. Had a search on Google, just mid numbingly boring reading all that
Thanks, Barney
If you can't send, then it sounds like your SMTP server isn't configured. What mail provider are you using? eg if Gmail, go to: Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calander > (email account) > Account If you select account, then you should have the SMTP settings (out going mail server).
Hi Steve, I'm guessing that the email settings will be exactly the same as the iphone. I dont see why it should be any different? which is smtp.o2.co.uk I can not believe that I have spent nearly 12 hours on trying to sort this out, if it isn't sorted by Friday it will end up in the recycle bin. My patience is running out... Thanks, Barney
Well just thought I'd give it another go before I go to bed and have just managed to send an email albeit totally wrong. Have just read this about using the gmail serverhttp://www.avforums.com/threads/o2-email-on-3-ipad.1436012/ and although it worked, my gmail address appeared in the delivery address bar which is not what i wanted. Not sure whether I'm making much sense with this Thanks, Barney

I can not believe that I have spent nearly 12 hours on trying to sort this out, if it isn't sorted by Friday it will end up in the recycle bin. My patience is running out... The joys of email, very frustrating when it doesn't work It is your SMTP settings, and I just use the default Google settings, which is the same as what they are saying in the AV thread. I don't have the phone module activated on my ipad, so only connect via the internet, which is why I use the default gmail settings. My Exchange account settings are exactly the same as they are for my laptop config. If you have activated your Sim card and it is live, then in theory I thought it would be the same as your phones smtp, but only speculation as I don't connect via a Sim, only wireless via my router.
Finally cracked it On the main computer, emails once read are deleted and are then sent to the deleted box, both the Ipad and the Samsung Galaxy S3 constantly show these as new emails, so according to these gadgets I have 1600 new emails, even if I delete them from the phone and Ipad they just reappear in matter of minutes. However this does not happen with the Iphone....any ideas? Thanks Thanks, Barney

I'm no email expert, and prob talking cobblers, but it sounds like you have a mixture of settings between devices, maybe POP and IMAP. To synch, everything should be configured as IMAP which is what mail services use to synch, versus POP which just downloads your messages. I had a similar problem years ago on my laptop. I must admit, I thought when you configured Gmail, it was auto configured as IMAP, but might be worth checking your settings just in case. Go into settings > mail, contacts > gmail mailbox > account > advanced (under the SMTP tab). Should see IMAP settings there. Likewise check your samsung device and see if that's using IMAP.
Just another quick question on this, I seem to have over 20,000 emails now If I scroll down the little black /grey slider thingy Could this be a software issue? Thanks, Barney
Assuming your talking about gmail, then if you have 20,000 emails on your gmail account, then that's what you will see. On my exchange account I have the option to select how many days worth of mails to download and synch, this is controlled in mail settings. But maybe best bet is to take it into your nearest Apple shop and get one of the youths to have a look. They're normally pretty good and will be able to sort you or get you set up properly. |
