The Cold Calling Poll 17th November 2012 8:14 PM
Does cold calling still work and does it have a place in the modern marketers toolkit?

Well, if I am honest, I hate cold callers and when I get in from work and the telephone starts to ring at 6:00pm or so (and often later) I do get a little grumpy. Overseas callers who's english is so bad that you have to work very hard to understand them make my blood boil when they say "hi my name is Fred and I very much want to speak to the house owner". My desire to be as annoying as possible then kicks in, especially after a bottle of wine. I will often use the following:

OK that's fine, I am a squatter here
Sorry, no roof insulation because I had a fire last night
I live in a flat, try ringing the man who lives above me he is on the third floor!
Sorry he is dead
Sorry I am dead
Sorry this is an automated service and your telephone will self destruct in 30 seconds
I don't like chicken do you?
Yes, yes , yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.............they tend to hang up after the fourth yes
How did you know I was here? Don't tell my wife, do you promise?

I think I need

well I am confused, are links a good thing or not? As things stand I would happily swop links with anyone, brief description and clearly on my links page. Are we saying google wont like me anymore if I do this?
what you like to do after working? 12th November 2012 9:22 PM
whats that? kids and married

I don't put mine to bed anymore, they are 22, 24 and 26. The oldest "makes me" go the the gym every night for 1.5 hours, I hate it becuase I became an eating and drinking machine when I stopped smoking.
However, after almost 6 weeks, the weight is going and I feel strong again. Suggested to Mrs Sharpink that I may come out of retirement and play for the Rugby League Veterans (they go on tour to Austrailia next year). Mrs Sharp ink said thats fine "but" she wont be here when I get back followed by the term muppet?
I swear she has no sense of humour!

Thanks Ray . amazing how the slightest stress automatically makes you reach out for them, or hunt them down when its been hidden from you (by yourself). They say that it takes about 3 days for the nicotine to work itself out of the system, and that the worst withdrawals happen after that time.

Its all true but if you dwell on the negatives you will get a negative response. Accept it wont be easy, however each day remind yourself how well you have done, in the last 24 hours, the last few days and in my case the last few months. I have been a moody, grumpy **** at work but my friends have (so they say) forgiven me for the greater good.

I am now training hard with my oldest son, and I am at last losing the excess weight gain. Will I ever smoke again? I like to think not, I hate the smell of smokers now....hypocrit I hear you cry...but honestly I can smell a smoker from 500 yards away... keep fighting, you will do it.

On a bad day vent your anger on here, I did and looking back it was MLF that got me through.

I will. Its just harder than I thought it would be. I'm grateful for all the support though, it means a lot to me.

I honestly could not have quit without MLF. I used to get a little "fresh" and vented my daily frustrations on the MLF forum. It was a great distraction for me

This "blip" was just a sign that you were not ready at that moment in time. You will quit when you are ready and you will take pride in that achievement when you share it here.....keep fighting, you can do it

To be honest, I think I get most of my followers from different forum sigs..

enough said, I don't want to waste my time building another "interst" platform that is dependant upon me introducing my friends, family and customers in to a new forum that is wholly reliant upon a socialy constructed desire to be popular! Your popularity is then used by the owners to advertise with impunity, oh sorry that's face book. Either way no desire to use it at the moment. thumbsdown

Anyhow, done the weights, had my tea, on to the wine and I have had a realy bad day at work. But that is another story that will be told when I am sober..

So how does Steve kick the gum habit?

Ok the cigs (for me) have been easy to quit, but can reducing the ammount of gum consumed be that hard?

I know from my day job that people can develop replacement addictions but serioulsey thought the secondary addiction would then be easier to address.

I suspect my relacement has been food and beer, working hard with the oldest son, building muscle but still getting heavier!!! I am worried that I am now addicted to weight training.

My wife argues that I should eat less and get on the running machine more. Leave the weights to Number 1 son she says!......(he is going to make me a grandad in March 2013, but thats another story).
