Hadn't heard that. I must admit i thought the £ had been secured irrespective of the result.

Need to look further at this.

I don't know how many times in my lifetime that we have had to get used to new notes or coins being introduced, but the Bank of England have just unveiled the new £5 note.

Not going to go on about the note itself, but i was watching breakfast news, was only really half tuned in but there was an economics chap going on about the cost saving the note will make the BofE to the tune of £100million in 10 years, but it will cost 2 - 3 times more than their savings for retailers and other Banks to change their systems and cash points etc to allow the new note to be accepted and/or dispensed.

Never really given a thought about the other economics and costs involved in introducing a new note/coin until now ..... how many cash points will need adapting, tills in supermarkets, staff training on identifying the new note - the list goes on & on!

Was just reading an article on MSN about insomnia whilst munching on lunch.

Ii do sometimes struggle to switch off some nights (nothing to do with the 8 cups of coffee i consume a day ) i thought i'd read the article and was almost won over until i tried it to see how relaxed i became.

Bottom -line is you adopt your favorite sleeping position (no i didn't do this as was in the office) then breathe in for a count of 3, then exhale for a count of 6,repeat, and repeat until you fall asleep.

Lots of detailed analysis of why it works, except when i did it i was out of breath as i'm exhaling more then i'm inhaling.

Read the article and see if you can understand and how you don't end up with aching lungs ....

Becoming a Non Smoker 3rd June 2016 1:28 PM

Without revisiting what i said before, i did actually manage cold turkey - very easy for me to say now but its a simple case of what did i want to achieve by giving up - mine was my ex wife said we couldn't have kids unless i stopped smoking.

Looking back now, why did i bother

Kidding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sure you will crack it Barney - sending huge amounts of forum positive waves

Goodbye BHS 3rd June 2016 10:11 AM

So another High Street big name shop will be confined to our memories as a buyer has not been secured for the floundering company.

Its not just the 11,000 jobs on the line as I heard on the news earlier that their pension would also be slashed.

I get that most pensions are based on final salaries etc, but how can the pensions pot be diminished? Isn't that fraud/theft of funds that are nothing to do with the collapse of the firm?

Punishment, Japanese Style 3rd June 2016 9:57 AM

News breaking this morning from Japan, that a 7 year old child, initially feared dead has been found alive and relatively well.

His parents told authorities that he had wandered off last Saturday, only to actually admit they had driven off and left him on a remote mountain road as punishment for throwing stones. Ouch !

I was brought up by fairly strict parents and I think I was firm with my 2, but clearly this was over stepping the mark.

In this ever increasing age of namby pamby state what are parents allowed to do to discipline their children. What do you guys do when your kids act up?

My 2 are passed the age where i can do much (being mid & late teenagers) except switch off the wifi, or confiscate phones, but as they rarely come to my house together, they don't get in to too many scrapes!

The EU - Has Cameron done enough? 3rd June 2016 9:45 AM

Also, why was it on Sky and not normal TV channels? Or was it and i didn't notice

Anyone's views changed yet or are they as they were?
