Search the web but can't find anything useful except complains about charges”

Never heard of them but your quote tells me everything I need to know

Oh what a night.... 19th June 2015 12:19 PM

Playing catch up here, come one Barney, we need episode 3! Is he behind bars or on the run?

Joking aside, have you got your wagon and tools back?

We have been working with a trader who had his 2 vans stolen, all tools in the back, and they loaded up all his spare tools out of the garage. Heart breaking story which nearly finished him. Took him a while but he's come to terms with it and is rebuilding his business from scratch.

Yet scumbags can go round and destroy hard working peoples livelihoods. I hope you sue the arse of this pratt!

He's really been pushing it on his breakfast show. With the 1 show, TFI, Breakfastshow and now TopGear, could there be a danger of the classic over exposure and the usual Great British backlash

Barney hits a 1000 posts! 19th June 2015 12:08 PM
Twitter, in it's early embryonic form, was a beautiful place full of fun and sarcasm

seems I missed the best of twitter  I resisted for as long as possible before finally following the crowd... It has it's uses but it's functional rather than fun

Please don't say that .. They will just produce yet another site that is virtually impossible to understand ..google plus is bad enough ,in my opinion

To be fair they seem to do that every few months as it is  Can be hard work to keep up with the changes. Will confess to using Google Plus less and less now. A lot of the communities I used have got very spammy, and some of the moderation seems to have gone the other way so you end up getting quality posts blocked.

I made a profit in my first year, so that must be good, right? (although also suggests I didn't take much risk, which is very true). ”

That's the beauty of stats and figures, you can read anything in to it, or turn any number to your advantage.

If you only made £150 profit, who cares if you say "your profit margin is over 40%". If you lost £30k, then you are "restructuring your operation which has increased more costs in the short term".

All smoke mirrors and cobblers

It seems different in the States, you have startups with millions of dollars of seed money, or startups raising second or third round funding.

Does anyone see an advantage to being referred to as a start up, or were you keen to move away from the perception of being a start up?

Microsoft Tech Support Scams 15th June 2015 12:07 AM

I wonder if they are ramping up again? This scam is as oold as the hills, yet I've had 2 calls at home (which really winds me up) in the last week. I played along for a while being the dimmest user in the world, to the point he got frustrated and handed me over to a colleague.

nice trick I havent seen before, he claims he can prove he's from Microsoft as he can confirm your PC license number. It's all cobblers, he'll quote a standard string of numbers that is embedded on all windows machines.

But it's a scam aimed at the unwary and vulnerable, it's still going because it's so lucrative and people still fall for it.

Wife took the second call and told then F off, a much cruder but more effective approach

Spelling out why grammar matters 14th June 2015 11:41 PM

I wonder if the teachers have a harder time now with the text generation, trying to instil the virtues of grammar and English language. Looking on Facebook, anyone under the age of 20 speaks a different language to me!

will these youngsters struggle in the workplace, or is it just like knowing another language, and correct grammar kicks in when needed?

I had to write some proper letters recently and was embarrassed to realise I'd forgotten all the rules, sincerely, faithfully etc. kind regards doesn't really cut it! A quick google soon sorted it.

With all the tools at our disposal these days, you would think grammar checking would be automated, but as this smell checker proves, we have a long way to go!

I'd be interested to know what was in the post you boosted?  I am yet to spend much on Facebook as I tried a couple of things and it didn't work. I was told LinkedIn was the best place for b2b leads but I haven't done much apart from revamping my profile. I think I need to interact on there a bit more.  So many social media types and so little time!  ”

Straightforward call to action. In this case a targeted message inviting small businesses to join a new service. The ability to target your exact audience and age range made this the winning combination for me. I figured decision makers would be 25+ to 55. Younger would be wasted clicks, as would older who are established an prob less likely to be Looking to gain accreditation. So you then stand a better chance of getting a more viable conversion rate. In real terms, a £200 product has worked out at £10 per conversion. Out of marketing we have done to date for this particular service, FB is currently working out to be the most cost effective, but I suspect that will change shortly as we start pushing brand rather than product.

The best way to promote on Pinterest 14th June 2015 11:06 PM

I think I can safely say pininterest has well and truly fallen off the radar! There doesn't seem to be as much hype about as there was 12/24 months ago, unless I've tuned it out.

agree it's very niche and can no doubt work well for some things, but certainly not for us. About the most success I've had are my holiday snaps of Indian lorries and the odd funny cartoon.
