I can only really answer this from being on the receiving end of an unwanted SMS and nothing frustrates me more. I don't think I've ever read one, other than from my service provider (orange). I don't think it's as effective as emails, telemarketing or good old face to face sales. But it does depend on your target audience.
I think this could work very well if you work within the "vision sector" such as fashion, interior design, design in general - people can see products instantly and how good they look. I think it could be a very powerful tool if you are in the right industry.

it's worth having a video as most people will prefer to actually watch something as opposed to read through the constant sales pitch on your website. You can also fit more into the video than most users are willing to read
I suppose that, given time as more and more SEO companies enter the market prices will begin to plummet as one company tries to outbid another. I wonder as to whether you'd be of the same view then?

A good rule to abide by is avoid impulse purchases - never buy anything over the phone when it's a cold call.
I can't remember a time when I actually bought a CD never mind bought from HMV. I download everything nowadays and I think this is going to be the way forward. It's also cheaper as there are no overheads of printing etc... Blackbusters are the same

Daniel if I was this confident in my website I would do everything I possibly could in order to keep the website 100% my own - what ever it takes, loans, credit cards, savings....

Personally I tell clients to run PPC alongside and SEO campaign and once the SEO campaign matures you can then reduce the spend whilst maintaining traffic levels - always keep PPC as a backup as any Google algorirthm update can literally wipe you off the face of Google and if your campaign is already highly optimised you just need to turn it back on again
