So after upgrading the office machines from XP to Vista, now we have another Microsoft Operating system to choose from.
Is it me, or has Vista only recently arrived, and now thats been superceded!
So as business owners, do we feel the need to keep refreshing our technology, or do we stick with what we have?
From personal experiance, upgrading to Vista and the latest MS Office didn;t bring any benefits from XP and Office 2003, other than having to learn how to do things again!!
So when do we upgrade again, wait for the next operating system?
I hated MS to be honest Steve, but have found Vista awesome, so will not be moving any time soon, most of it comes down the the power of your hardware, which is most important when looking at a new OS, if your hardware cannot handle the OS stay put, but I am sure you said that servers were your bag, so you know this more than most. Still getting used to my frigging blackberry bold, so defo no movement my end!

Have to admit Aim, I tend to steer clear and use thunderbird, never affected by OS updates or installs then!

stick with a decent os like SUSE no more updating and microsoft crashing
Yeah I hear you Greg, I put linux on a DV5000 HP a while ago, was beautiful, no errors, no lag no nothing, use my stuff for work now though, but its linux all the way on personal equipment, just getting used to kernals and installs, then its all gravy
Linux is all well and good but I still think it has its place and until they can make it sheeple proof it wont really advanced as much as Windaz. For instance i needed install a new util on my Linux box but it needed a different compiler in order to run the app. can you imagine most peeps going through that pain. I liked Vista but Windows 7 is what vista should have been to start with quick and very stable. still not keen on the fisher price style but at least you can shut it off. aimgarde If you have only just got used to office you will fun figuring out the new 7 interface then. Like Steve said im a technophobe (although he cant spell it )- I deal with the customers not the techie problems lol, you lot seem to be talking a different language half the time. Im sticking with customer support, it easy by comparison to tech stuff Clive
see Linux/Unix is all well and good for web servers and running databases, and IIS should never be allowed past the firewall, but not convinced its there yet as a serious alternative for M$. If you have techie/geek users its fine, but your average business user wants familarity, ease of use, which is what we had with XP and Office 2003. Just frustrating they seem to have gone back to the bad old days of pumping out new products like a sausage factory  |
