How important is Page Rank from your backlink pages?

I was wondering how important is the Page Rank of the backlinks that you get to your site? I've read that you should look for high Page Rank on the backlinks you get but it seems like getting backlinks from good quality, relevant pages/sites is difficult enough and getting backlinks from high Page Ranked pages/sites is of course even trickier.

Has anyone got any good advice on this point? Much appreciated.

A lot of people will give you different advice on this, especially when it comes to PR, and it depends which forum you are on

But for my 5 pence worth, I think PR does still count, and ideally you want a back link from a relevant page with decent PR.

But getting those pesky high PR links has spawned a whole industry and you get to the point where you don't know where to turn.

Another way is the way Google wants you to work, and write good content, so people will naturally link to you. Just add a bit of marketing like twitter and facebook to give your great content a bumpstart

You can ignor PR provided the page you are interested in is in the Google index it will help.

In my experience the PR of the page or site doesn't seem to make much if any difference. The numbers of links and referring domain names does.

The key consideration are whether the pages is related to your topic and how many outgoing links it has already.

High page counts but not that much. Any backlink from relevant website will count more then high page rank backlink from un-relevant website.

But when it come from relvant high page rank web page then surly it will really boost your SEO effort. It will improve the ranking...

Many sites have quality page rank to help boost via back-links, googles algorhythms zones out certain other ones.

If that's the case then, is this site only really beneficial to those who work in SEO? Or am I just being thick?
