one of the places we lived at in portugal had the neighbours from hell up stairs....

noise, kids running around at 2am, comings and goings at all hours, bad parking etc.....

police where called by us umpteen times

eventually when my wife was again knocking on their door to ask to keep the noise down .... well i heard the husband making excuses in portuguese and starting to raise his voice about repeated callings..... not a good idea

i started off upstairs grabbing the closest thing to hand, which happened to be y "bokken" wooden training swords

well as i got towards his door he saw the big ugly man with a stick walking towards him and slammed the door in my wifes face (rightly so as i probably would have hit him with the bokken

anway we went down stairs and called the police again....it was very noisey up stairs

2 lots of police called 1 by us 1 by them and we went through all the problems (we were told to keep a diary of every thing) and the letters we had written and the police call outs etc

all seemed well for a while then it kicked off aagain, but by that time we had found a large detached house to live in and only waited a week before we moved out

no moral to this story

Hi Laura, welcome aboard. The power of Google eh?

Got to be honest, it's very tempting...

Can see it now, us dressed up in My Local Forum shell suits and baseball caps... leaning against the front door looking miserable, them, with hands on hips looking angry.

Anyone else want to sponsor us? Maybe us standing round the new swimming pool Mark Pitts is about to donate...

Unfortunately it's all in the hands of solicitors, so I think we have reached a legal stalemate, which as long as they leave us alone, suits me fine

That's more like the sad reality, the only real fix for a lot of people is too move away

There are two relevant laws that deal with this sort of thing.

The Protection from Harassment Act 1997 and the Public Order Act 1986.

The threshold is very low BUT the Police don't like getting involved.

The trick is to treat it like a complaint where you keep going up the chain of command. You are very likely to find a middle ranking/senior officer who will be sufficiently concerned about negative publicity to do something.

Always keep records and write to the Police at each turn- Constable, Inspector, Superintendant or whatever the chain is where you are.

My Hubby and I were Always the ones who got trouble from Neighbors from Hell.
At our first place, it was the Land Lady plus being Stalked by a Weirdo, then the 2nd place, it was our Downstairs Neighbors. After the Lady tried to run me down and they sent someone to park on our street and spy on us for them, plus the Land Lady that was Constantly Harassing us, we finally left one night, in the middle of the night, the 3rd place, we were the quiet Neighbors, but the other Neighbors didn't like us, so we left, the 4th place, our Land Lady was Constantly after us, we got kicked out of there after Losing a Dispute.
Finally, living here, it has been quiet.
We live in our own house and we Rent here too, but things have been much better.
Land Lady stays out of our hair except to collect the Rent Check, no one comes over or bothers us.

lol we all have em. Even down here in good ol' SA.

Where I live, there is a semi elderly couple. I think they may have retired too early or something, but man are they annoying. Ya think maybe they're bored or something? They feel they are boss out here. Once, they complained about the dogs in our neighborhood to the point where the hubby went to the offending house and screamed at the occupants (My next door neighbors). He ALWAYS as something to say or something to complain about with the area.

He even went as far as to get the SPCA out here to make sure the dogs were ok. We have neighbors that are mechanics by trade, and are always tinkering in their garage. We almost NEVER see a police car out here. lol until the mechanics are busy again.

A week or so ago, I was working on our training videos for clients and I needed silence. My mic is sensitive and generally picks up the slightest noise. and to be completely honest, I was furious when the next thing I hear is someone going off with an angle grinder. I was on a deadline and this had to be done as professionally as our videos on youtube and I was getting nowhere fast with this noise. Anyhoo, I walked to the window to see if I could pinpoint where the noise was coming from. And it was none other than the twit that always complained at us putting up a new deck.

The first thing I thought of was justice. The thought of going down there and ripping him 'a new one' was almost too good to let go. But in the end, I stepped back and thought you know? the last thing I need now is for him to make ME a target of his pettiness. I think the other neighbors might have gotten a slice of justice pie though. His grinding didn't last long at all

Thanks,
Dreamraven

Yep, probably going to get done for being oldist by the thought police, but it does seem to be old folk with too much time on their hands that seem to be the main culprits!

At least now I know it's an international issue and not just my street!
