Sales

Is it only a UK thing where shops have this so called 'sale' thing? I can never get my head around why a retailer would slice 20-60% of a sale price, either the goods you are buying are valued at a set price or they are not. Maybe if some of the retailers kept a stablised pricing structure throughout the year they may just get through the current financial climate without having a closing down sale! The other little scam sales people try pulling is having a .95p or .99p on the price tag, either round it up or down.

Thanks,
Barney

I assume it's all to do with different lines. You see these daft sale prices in the high street, and I tend to associate them with womens clothes. Blokes over the age of 35 will wear the same clobber day in day out, but womens clothes will change every other month. Guess the retailors will guestimate how much stock they need, and then dump any left over at daft discounts to make room for the next must have frock. Shows how much markup there is to be able to slash so much off the prices.

No different from buying bigger items though, you know full well the marked up price of a car is nothing like what you will actually pay (unless you don't haggle!), then a few months later, its a crazy give away sale... same goes for sofas, kitchens...
