There are a lot of local business directories out there... some are free, some are paid, some are both...

Which do you use for your own business or your clients? and why?

Moved you over to the Business Directory Forum.

So can I answer this one?

Obviously other than My Local blah blah, then based on directories that generate us traffic, would be TJ's UK Small Business Directory

Hi,

Here are some Google search queries to help you find niche and local directories.

[keyword] * directory
[keyword] directory
[keyword] directory "add or submit or suggest or post"
directory * [keyword]
intitle:directory "[keyword]"
inurl:directory "[keyword]"

Replace [keyword] with your keyword/s or county. If you want to find UK TLD specific domains you can try adding site:.uk to the end.

I would also suggest before you go submitting your website to each and every directory check:

- how many pages are indexed
- does the homepage have any pagerank
- number of inbound links
- is the category you're submitting to indexed

Another important point to check is whether the site looks like its being maintained and new sites are being added. Don't waste your time submitting to directories that aren't active.

Our website is based in Australia, so we are focused more on getting quality backlinks from Australian business directories like True Local, Flying Solo Directory, Start Local, Hotfrog etc.

Interesting, we flirted with the idea of launching in Oz after the States, but the geography versus volume of population is staggering, so we put it on the back burner, thinking it wouldn't work for our model, your nearest local business could be 600 miles away

I know Adam from wampit launched in Oz, be interesting to hear how that's going or you have seen any local visibility?

Hi Nyagoslav,
Thanks for sharing a good list. are they free to use?

Nathan Lynch

Anyone had some good results from these though?

FreelanceScribbler

Great list,
Besides these I am getting good response from bizwiki and ibizblvd

I feel these local directories can do a lot value addition of businesses rather than just listing their businesses.
