I got this from another forum, but had to pass it along. Shell asked the masses to help them come up with an ad for their Arctic Readiness campaign. It was an Epic fail (to say the least)...

Here is the gallery with some of the ideas: Shell

I've added it here, not because of the fail, but because I wanted to know what you guys think of this venture into the arctic. Are things just that bad that we need to do this?

Thanks,

It was a very clever online reputation attack.

This is actually a hoax set up by Greenpeace, and is nothing to do with Shell

Shell social ad "Let's Go" a Greenpeace hoax - UPI.com

Just goes to show though, the power of suggestion, social media, and a bit of viral hysteria. All food for thought!

Nice one. lol

I always thought that Greenpeace were the guys that followed you in a boat and tossed stuff at you. Not set up sites to attack you. (I have egg on face)

Its strange though. Why would they do this in the first place (besides the fact that they are Greenpeace and that they care about the environment), but if some people are willing to go that far, how good can the project really be?

Greenpeace are huge. They matured from the long hair hippy sterotypes of yesteryear and do tackle large issues.

Love them or loathe them, they do now have the clout to take on large multinationals, as we have seen by viral campaigns, media etc.

Some of their causes and techniques have been questionable, but then look at the work they have and still do to end whaling and things like climate change.

If nothing else, if Shell do end up taking oil out of the Artic, they will at least be a lot more accountable and their work closely scrutinised by relevant govts/agencies.

That would be much better than having them do as they please I guess. and to be honest, if I hadn't seen this, I would never have been the wiser either, so I am only guessing how many others wouldn't know either.

Ah well, best get back to work then. lol

(grumbles and walks away red faced)
