When is it not a good idea to anger a superpower?

Google (or their execs) tend to enjoy being in the limelight. This post at the wall street journal was picked up by two other online papers so far (namely the financial times and the guardian) and talks about Eric Schmidt's new book and how he thinks China is the "most dangerous superpower on earth" (to quote).

it's what he said that was kinda shocking though :

China, Schmidt and Cohen write, is “the world’s most active and enthusiastic filterer of information” as well as “the most sophisticated and prolific” hacker of foreign companies. In a world that is becoming increasingly digital, the willingness of China’s government and state companies to use cyber crime gives the country an economic and political edge, they say.

So what do you think? Is there merit in what he's said? Do you think its hogwash or name calling?

I kinda feel sorry for Google and their execs. I don't think China is going to let that one slide. If it was me, I probably wouldn't either.

Thanks,
