Beware of Scams/Hoaxes claiming to be charities

Charitable Clothing/Items Collections - Unfortunately this is an age old problem, but lots of people still fall for it, especially during the season of good will, and there are various versions of this across the country.

Action Fraud has some great tips on how to spot bogus charities and how to protect yourself, but help or advise elderly relatives if they don't understand. Charity donation fraud | Action Fraud

This particular leaflet is doing the rounds in Warwickshire, although the number is now dead, and the Genuine Air Ambulance Service are in talks with Police and Trading Standards.

Don't stop giving, just be a little more cautious of who you are giving to.

You know it really stinks that there are so many people willing to run a scam, and in this case it really hurts people who actually needed it. I have stopped giving my used clothing and things of that nature to one of our local charity's and started giving it to a homeless ministry instead.

The place I used to give too would sell the items and the proceeds went to fund a battered women's shelter which is great. There are just so many people hurting around here that I decided to give my items to someone who would get it where it needed to be.
