Its really about engaging and not trying to come across too hard with a sell. I would say facebook business pages aren't that great in terms of generating leads so not much focused is placed there. LinkedIn is good for discussion and engage of ideas. Twitter is good because once you get use to it, it is fairly easy to get you message across and isn't as time consuming and many other social networks. I think blogs offer consumers advice and valuable information can be really good. From there they can link to you web site and possible bring some business you way. This will also boost seo for your site as well.

I guess it is all about interacting with your clients. If your clients are connected with you via social media, then there are great chances of them referring them to their friends and families.
It is a good way to promote your product and services and if you are releasing a new product/services then it will be easy to promote it there.
