Website Copyright, do I have rights?

Hope your telephone call worked. Any news?

I have been looking into protection of copyright for logos and custom art work on the websites we design. I was under the impression that if you made it, it is yours and no-one else can use it. This of course is all well and good but how do you find out if someone as stolen something?
It seems you have to pay to register for copyright (the little c), is it worth doing it?

Do a search for DCMA - I put these out almost on a daily basis - as so many spammers rip of my content.

There are huge number of these doing the rounds at the moment particularly after the recent Google update that caused problems if duplicate versions of your work are found.

I'm very curious how this one plays out...

GOOD LUCK

Deed not done yet, will keep you posted!

Pray tell, what's the latest? Be interesting to see if a phone call did the job!

Any luck?

I'm hooked to know the outcome on this one Good luck!

For me personally, I don't have time to "play games" arguing with the thieves. The "no I didn't take your work", "yes you did take my work" banter is time consuming & frustrating.

I just go straight to the hosting company and file a DMCA complaint without ever contacting the thief. The thief knows they are a thief. And arguing with them is pointless.
(Easy to do: do a Who Is on the domain, and send an email to the host company to lodge the complaint (there are several easy to use templates on the web to use as a guide)) Takes usually 5 minutes to file the complaint. And most hosting companies respond quickly in turning the thieve's site off until the stolen content is removed.
