Forum posting is quite helpful for me in regards of leads. But it is not improving my SERP ranks. I wonder if it is still effective in regards of SERP.

I agree with dreamraven, when i built the Hornsea Ink Shop web site, I was told by many to build links, add to forums and post blogs without any thought to the quality, purpose or content etc. When I arrived at my local forums (here), I was told by steve not to "pitch" or spam. Having taken the warning on the chin I started to read the forums and began to learn..the website (Hornsea Ink Shop) has grown in the last 6 months, it appears on the first page of google and I am getting orders. My point, join in, listen to the advice given and contribute to the community.

Thanks,
Ray Priestley

Forum marketing offer's the same environment that social sites offer and what the consumers are now demanding; more personal and interactive relationship with the businesses they deal with. Like social networks, forums gives voice to the consumer.

Nice feedback, and glad things are going the right direction

Well don't forget that forums can bring real visitors to your site also - if you make an interesting contribution then visitors may click your link and take a better look at what you do.

Yes... if the forum is having some interesting people.

I have seen tons of useless forums too where people don't bother to click signature link or posted link even if helped them lot.

I guess, forum posting is still helpful.

You can see the value of contributions to different fora in your site stats. I post quite often in 2 national and 1 regional "newspapers" and on a variety of careers, employment, HR and "special interest" sites. The site stats usually show small upward blips on the day of posting.

Sometimes you also get useful ideas for your own blog from reading others' contributions. It's a real slog writing my blog and anything which lessens the pain is welcome.

heh heh, know what you mean. Downside of forum posting, never have any ideas left to blog about! But then I'm not a good blogger, as Tomsk keeps telling me...
