Still don't understand why (in the UK at least) the teachers have to have a training day after 6 weeks of school holiday Surely that could be done while the kids are still off.

Interesting point about the lack of lifeskills for some teachers. Thats a real tough one to address, and I guess it's why they welcome people from business who fancy a new career in teaching. I suppose academic education can only go so far, maybe its the job of further education to equip and prepare students more thoroughly for the workplace.

Having seen the lack of basic office skills in graduates from my corporate days, this does seem to be an area that could be improved, (or maybe it has in the last 6/7 years).

Always bad when persons are paid more money than they deserve for a job. Something should be done on a large scale to change this. thumbsdown
