Are you sick of highly paid teachers?

Coming from a long line of teachers, and my brother is a teacher - hmm where do i start

I too am a Governor at one of my local schools and have witnessed first hand the abuse and bad manners of a 4 year old spitting and calling his teacher a bitch ....

Nope i dont think teachers are over paid, they have little to no backing when things go wrong with discipline, personally i think more should be done discipline wise at home - if i discovered my boys had been swearing at a teacher id ground them for a month - no PS/ x-box!!!

Yep you can argue they get all the holidays off & then the good old fashioned Baker days,now called teacher training days but my brother goes in on everyone of those days and spends a good chunk of his school holidays preping the following terms work. He probably takes around 5 weeks off a year like the rest of the working population.

Now schools are told they cant discriminate against the disruptive members of the class and have to get specialist help in to do one ot one care with these pupils rather than shipping them off to somewhere else - all of this has to come from the schools budget.

I suggest if anyone thinks a teacher is overpaid, take a week off & go and volunteer as a teaching assistant - see how you get on.

Personally i havent got the patience to be a teacher , im happy to volunteer as a Governor, another thankless task ....

Thank you for this post. For a while there, I thought you were serious about being 'sick of overpaid teachers' and was bracing for a debate. Thanks for putting it in proper perspective. It's an emotional issue for me because my mom was a teacher and my sister is currently teaching too, and I've seen the passion, sacrifice, and dedication they've put into their chosen vocation. If anything, teachers are underpaid and under-appreciated.

Actually, teachers do only teach 180 days a year. Normally there are around five training days that they have to work too.

I do not think teachers are over paid at all and I have seen the figures produced by the first poster before - you really do need to do the figures yourself!

It's also very unlikely that you will find 32 students in a class. A maximum of 30 in secondary school classes usually and that's for certain subjects. More dangerous subjects such as P.E. and technology often have lower numbers.

Primary schools have a maximum of 23 students per class, I think. That is also a law so if schools have more than that number, they must employ another teacher.

Are they paid too much? Well let's add in all the 'that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school' because actually this is quite important. Marking books and giving good feedback is essential to a student's development.

After school clubs is also crucial especially to those students who do not have parents at home to look after them from 3.30p.m. or come from a difficult background where school is the only place that they feel safe.

Personally, teachers are not paid enough however the real problem is that lots of teachers, especially in secondary education from my experience, are not qualified enough to do the job. I do not mean formally qualified but actually qualified with life skills.

They are often outcomes of a primary school to secondary school to college to university and back to school lifestyle. They have not lived and have little concept of how the world actually 'works'.

Personally I am annoyed at the ignorance of the first poster's message and think that perhaps instead of reading the Daily Mail, he should do his own research and for his own good... not use his company name in his posts when writing such blatant tosh!

Let me explain: my previous post was not as serious as you thought.

As for my research, it has long been available. But it makes no sense to consider it in detail here, as well as it makes no sense to compare the British and the Russian system education.

I am a person who knows the Russian system of higher education for a long time, I want to say that the main criteria for choosing the teaching profession in Russia is not a financial factor .
So the debate, declared in the first message caused my smile. What I apologize if it offended anyone.
