Basically I own the .co.uk on a really good name to do with my business I will be selling clothing now somebody else has the .com but has decided not to do anything with it in Russia but they want truereddevil35
I would go ahead with the .co.uk and ignore the .com indizine indizine
I started with mylocalservices.co.uk and really wanted the .com for the US. I repeatedly got told not interested, and launched our US site using .us Then a few years later, the .com was sat on a holding page, offered a few quid, and it was mine ![]() There's always a work around, as Indizine says don't worry about it, and don't be taken hostage. Unless you are recognised brand, it's only really worth something to you, so whoever has it, is unlikely to get much for it elsewhere.
I would say if you're work is in the UK, then go with the .co.uk domain. I don't think I'll ever have the dot.com of my business name as its owned by a large software company. My own silly fault, when I registered it years ago, the .com was available, at the time however I didn't see the need. So, if you do see the .com domain come available it might be worth more than SKETCH3D
Yes, but consider putting a - in between the words and taking the .com on that. Do you know anything about the people who have it, they may just be someone who thinks they can make silly money domain name trading and are overpricing their domain. I would go back and offer gpurdey
I was always told to buy both domains if possible. However, if my business was just aimed at the British market, then I would be better off with just the .co.uk name. I have recently discovered (somebody else may have another opinion) that Google likes your site better if you have a .co.uk domain and you are only targeting customer within the uk. Seeing that the other site is Russian and they are not selling the same items as you, I wouldn't worry about it. Good luck Regards The Happy Camper
Personally I would go ahead. After all, if the other site is a) in Russia and b) the owners are not doing anything with it, it's not going to be much competition for your site. If the owners are not doing anything with the domain, there's a good chance it will expire and you can get it that way. I believe GoDaddy has an area on their site where you can register an interest in a particular domain and they will alert you when it expires. I'm sure other registrars have similar services.
