Charity and Police Magazine Advertising SCAMS - GovtI had one of these calls to my mobile just before lunch today. Guy with a Scouse accent announced that he was calling from some police organization and started a spiel about cutting crime in the local area then, as I suspected he would, he started going on about their latest publication and advertising opportunities for local businesses. I've had loads of these calls before but he never gave me a chance to get a word in so I could say I wasn't interested, so I just ended the call. He immediately called me back so I pressed the busy button. A few minutes later I saw I had a message and it was him leaving a message which said 'there's no need to be rude you knobhead'. So yes I can concur, most if not all of these guys are pretty aggressive.
“A few minutes later I saw I had a message and it was him leaving a message which said 'there's no need to be rude you knobhead'. Although for the sake of legal reasons, I removed the end of your sentence ![]()
Bit of a thread bump, but no harm if its going to stop Johnny spammer getting anymore money. Same advice as previously posted, just do your research and Google the company and NEVER pay from a single cold call ! Clive
I think that there are 3 or 4 of these so called magazines going around, maybe 2 or 3 are real but poorly promoted but there is most defiantly at least 1 if not 2 scam companies using the same kind of pushy sales techniques for very little in return. Research, research and research - cant keep saying that enough. Never give out your card details on the first call, especially if they have with held their number. Its a shame that the the one or 2 scammers affected us in the way that we would all like more advertising but are worried that we may be parting with cash that doesn't give us what we paid for. If its a Charity and you genuinely want to donate, tell them that you will make your own donation to the Charity of your choice by your own secure method - i did have a DD set up to Marie Curie, now i just send a cheque or make a credit card payment on their website from the proceeds if i get compensation for anything i complain about Clive

“I was interviewed by the investigative reporter, Melinda Abbott, for the radio program, You and Yours, about my experience with the Police (charity?) magazine The Voice.
It is being aired on 29th December. ” Just saw this Julia! How did it go? Hope you pointed the listeners this way
Monday morning, and just had a right chancer get past my gate keeper! DL Magazine Marketing called, chasing an outstanding invoice for an article in the NHS magazine. I handle all accounts myself, so my GK passed the call to me - apparently we owe them £360 - and this Cretin got pretty shirty with me, saying someone else must have authorised the ad! Long and the short of it, they demanded payment (I also authorise marketing... shucks, It's only me that has a cheque book anymore here!). Told them where to stick it, but, I can well imagine someone new in business, or a bit jumpy just forking out to shut them up. Their number with-held, and cant find anything about them online.
