Well this is my first post so please be gentle with me thanks

I just wanted to ask a question do we use social networking enough for our online businesses and personal websites and blogs.
Most people I ask they just do not know where to start or they are but doing it wrong way.
So Social Networking is absolute must i.e. Twitter Facebook I find Twitter is the best to get you started first thing is to find like minded Tweeters for example I offer greeting cards it's not worth while following gardening as it has now real value. So think before you follow hundreds of useless followers also DONOT just use it to promote your business try and offer information tips help or even be funny they are more likely to then follow you.
That's enough for now.

Michael

Recently I almost quit the promotion on the social networkings, tried different social networkings for some time, no effect at all! Just see many people busy doing different promotions there, but seems very few reply to those promotion posts.... Social networking promotion made me very very tired.

Thanks,
lucy

I've just started using Twitter about a week ago and I am doing exactly the same thing just by interacting with people they can see who you are and what business you are from. There is nothing worse than just spamming the page with offers and promotions all I do with people that do that is unfollow them

Social media websites ( Twitter, face book, Google Plus etc.) normally are used to tell about your product or service. If you want to grow your business then you need complete SEO activities in proper way.

How would you use twitter for SEO purposes?

I don't think so. I am in the business for so long and I have a client called [removed]. I am trying to work on the social media front for the promotion of this site. But I am still wondering what are the important things that I need to do to promote my client.

Why not tell us what you have tried?

I have tried optimizing the current facebook page, G+ page, posted tweets on different topics. I guess I am missing out on pinterest where i can upload infographic images. Any other suggestions?

I blow hot and cold on FB and G+. What I'm currently doing which seems to work well is building up my Linked following, as those contacts naturally seem to want to connect on FB and G+, which I use really just for branding of the forum and business directories.

Guess it depends on target audience, and being a forum/directory I'm lucky this gives me a wider then usual interest group, than maybe a photographer or cake maker, but I guess the theory is the same.

Not saying this is the way to go, but seems to be working for me.

I think that promoting businesses on social media needs to be very subtle, as most people use social media exactly as that - social.

So when I am down the pub having a drink and chat with my mates, I don't want the double glazing salesman stopping the conversation and saying ' we have 30% off if you sign up today'.

However, if I am in the pub and one of my mates tells during some banter me 'I got my Windows sorted by a really good company, they were clean, fast and inexpensive' (or words to that effect, or may be not) if I was vaguely interested I might ask him the name of the company.

So - my theory, social media marketing needs to be about subtle endorsement, not self promotion.

Disagree?

p.s. I know 'the pub' isn't social media, but I'm using the analogy to make a point
