This is shocking, to say the least. The link does work, and thanks for passing this along. I just can't believe that there are really people like this in the world.

Thanks,

Have moved over to the scams section. Makes your blood boil. No idea how these scumbags sleep at night knowingly scamming the elderly and vulnerable

This type of selling has been with us for decades and is still going on with 'reputable' companies. You usually find it with home improvements (double glazing, conservatories, kitchens, solar power etc) but where there is a market.....

These people are no different from any other types of intimidation, threats and demanding money with menaces. The usual suspects are government jobsworths, debt collectors, bailiffs and anyone who thinks they have authority over you.

I have looked at the site, and I think I am a bit shocked if the police are working in cahoot with this people to flees unsuspecting vulnerable people. The Sharks have taken a different approach this time round.

no one is saying that the police are involved, quite the opposite, it is con men using the guise of police advertising to con us out of money, we raised the subject with the police when it happened to us and the relevant department knew nothing of it, and so they investigated only to find that some of it starts from abroad.

I'm no lawyer but am confident I'm right on the next bit ....

A contract signed with someone not capable of making a legal agreement due to mental incapacity (eg moderate dementia) is void.

Reputable companies will back off as soon as this issue is raised and they're told about the existence of supporting proof (eg the local authority has exempted the person agreeing the contract from paying Council Tax on the grounds of mental frailty).

Disreputable companies may try blustering and bullying but they'll also know they daren't risk a court case to try to enforce payment (it'd bring them unwanted attention from the authorities) and they wouldn't win one.

Oh crikey, you've totally got the wrong end of the stick there Roxy The Police in the UK get some rightly and wrongly bad press from time to time, but I can't imagine a British Bobby conning an old lady for an alarm scam!

On a serious note, it is disgusting. I've had very elderly family members pressure sold in the past, and one recently was a double glazing outfit, which after much investigation was completely legal, if ethically unsound. How these "salesmen" sleep at night is beyond me.
