Aesthetics vs necessity - Drip feed diets.

I just finished reading this post over at the telegraph and to say the least, I'm shocked. You know that people that actually use this diet are subjected to a nasal tube that feeds a protein rich liquid directly to the stomach (at about 260 calories).

I think its ghastly that someone would want to put themselves through that, for whatever reasons. But they say it seems to work and people lose about 11lb every ten days (dang).

You can read the rest here

The KEN diet provides just 260 calories a day - all derived from 65g of protein.
Participants are allowed to disconnect the tube for half an hour at most, for the odd luxury like a sugar-free herbal tea.
The diet is already being offered on Harley Street and Porter feared other clinics could follow.

What happened to the good old days when you had to walk, exercise and watch what you eat? What do you think about this? Would you opt in for this sort of treatment?

Thanks,
Dreamraven

No idea. But it seems to be all the rage now days. kinda scary thought, you'd sleep with that thing in your nose.

It's another #!%#@! diet (a particularly extreme version I'll grant). It wouldn't attract me, even though I'm embarked on the long, slow and exceedingly boring task of clawing back unwanted weight gain.

The problem about diets is that they don't work longterm (your body gets better at staying equally fat on less food).

Come on Dreamraven, you're now a non-smoker - tell us how you're getting on, we're rooting for you!

May be severe bit is it any more so than wiring your jaw shut or stomach reduction?

All diets to me seem non-functional & illogical - eat healthy & plenty of exercise, less or no alcohol = less weight

Now Clive just needs to follow his own advice

I have a bottle of red chilling. come have a glass and I'll tell you all about it

Meh, i just couldnt believe people do this to themselves.

By the time the plane lands, me thinks you may have finished it lol

Oh & i prefer my red wine room temp, not chilled - not a fan of those reds you do actually chill

Clive

Dang, ah well I get to keep the pizza then too

My other half has been on every diet that's been invented.... normally all at the same time.... Now she uses the excuse she is 'just big boned' however it was pointed out on television the other night, that archaeologists have yet to find a big boned skeleton....

Thanks,
Barney

Ahem, it's a well known fact that bones get heavier as you move into your thirties ...
